5.0 out of 5 stars We Love Bang!, September 20, 2007
By
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Bang! (Toy)
We took this to a group camp we had and it was a hit with everyone from 7 years old to 70 years old. The deck was being used by someone almost the whole time. The adults had to wrestle it away from the children to play.

It is one that makes you want to play again.

It is an elimination game so it can be upsetting to some if they just start and they get killed within the first few minutes, but the games are short enough (15 minutes to an hour at the longest)that you can get back in before too long.

Very high fun factor, great western theme. I suppose it could be a problem if you don't like the idea of everyone shooting each other up. We had some who were squeamish about the beer cards giving a player more health so we changed the word beer to rootbeer on each of the cards and the frosty mug matched right up.

We decided that 6 players is optimal, 5 or 7 is good and 4 is a lot weaker.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great game, January 1, 2008

We love playing this game. It's more fun with 6 or 7 but can be played with less. We don't like the "beer" cards so we changed them to say "rootbeer". Fast paced game and very easy to learn and explain to others.

5.0 out of 5 stars Howdy Cowboy!, August 9, 2007
= Durability:2.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:2.0 out of 5 stars

My family and I had a lot of fun playing this card game. It was unlike any other game that we own. The game plays quickly, so if you have someone in your group that hates long, drawn-out board games, this is perfect. Even if someone is "shot to death", they won't have to wait too long before you can begin another game. We found that the more people that could play (up to seven), the better. We look forward to purchasing the expansion pack to try out new characters.

4.0 out of 5 stars Such a fun cardgame!, March 29, 2005
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:2.0 out of 5 stars

This is a clever and very fun card game. The only reason I gave it a four is because when a character dies that player is out of the game entirely. Even though in the expansion there is a card that brings a player back to life but, only for one turn. Plus its only in the expansion pack. But anyway, unless you are out very early in the game which can happen, its very fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spaghetti Western Card Game, November 25, 2009
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Bang! (Toy)
If you're into spaghetti westerns and card games, this is the perfect game for you! If you're into one or the other, this game is still loads of fun. The cards are in Italian (with english subtext), and the gameplay really remids you of a classic spaghetti western. A bit complicated at times, but once the rules are learned it has all the attributes to top your list of favorite games.

4-7 players may play this game at a time (more or less with the expansions). I find it best with 5 or 6 players, but that's just me. Each player randomly receives a role to play as during the course of the game - sheriff, deputy, outlaw or renegade. This role comes with responsibilities and different win scenarios. For example: the sheriff's win scenario is to survive through the entire game, deputies try their best to keep the sheriff alive, outlaws try to kill the sheriff, and the renegade must be the last person standing to win. There is no table talk allowed, and only the sheriff is revealed at any point in the game (unless the character dies), so everyone has the sometimes difficult task to determine who their allies and enemies are by seeing how each player employs thier individual strategy.

Each player also receives a character card. This card has a couple pieces of information on it. First, it has the name of your character. Second, it has how many life points (bullets) your character has. The number of bullets you have at all times determines the number of cards you are allowed to have in your hand at any given time. And lastly, it has a unique special ability that each character has. This character card is extremely important strategically.

Overall, the rules are fairly simple. There is a specific outline for a players turn. Draw two cards, play as many cards as you like, and discard excess cards. You will need to keep the rules handy, as some of them can be difficult to remember and/or understand. The most difficult part of the game to understand is the idea of 'range.' Your range from someone determines whether or not you are in range to fire upon them. You can draw cards that will increase your range (bigger guns and faster horses!), or make you farther away in range from other players. Confusing at first, but once you understand it is easy to remember.

A player may play one 'bang' card per turn (with noteable exceptions). Bang cards are what you play to shoot other players, but playing a bang card doesn't automatically mean you hit the other player. They have a chance to dodge the bullet! Life points can be restored with 'beer' cards. If you have small children, you may feel the need to change these to read rootbeer. This is the only portion of the game which isn't necessarily child friendly.

Play continues until one player achieves their win scenario. Along the way, you may be sent to prison, shot at, attacked by Indians, blown up by dynamite, and even die (ending your game). Dying, however, does not necessarily mean that you lose the game. If you are a deputy and have died, as long as the sheriff wins, so do you, as you have done your duty and successfully protected the sheriff!

The game is manufactured well. The small box that it comes in is of good quality, but you may feel the need to wrap a rubber band around it so that it doesn't open accidentally, leaving a mess to clean up. The cards are of good quality as well. The size and thickness of standard playing cards, I feel like they will stand up to the wear and tear of numerous play throughs. I've played many many times, and my cards are in just about the same condition as they started.

Overall, this game is superb. It has a different feel from most card and/or board games, which makes it unique. I have enjoyed myself every time I've played, and find myself strategizing for the next game before the current game ends! This game is a ton of fun, keeps you thinking, and has great replay value.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very addicting indeed!, January 1, 2007

Running (United States of America) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bang! (Toy)
This game is very addicting! The more players you have, the better, and the more fun. I say this game can be played with up to 14 players if two is willing to share the turn. The objective of the game is to kill the Sheriff and once the sheriff is killed, the whole game is over. This game involves many strategies, which makes it very challenging. What makes this so strategic is that you could be killing the wrong person, like Mafia for instance. There are two VICE Sheriff who protects the Sheriff. There are 3 outlaws, whose goals are to attack the Sheriff, and one Renegade, who basically tries to outwin everyone. It may be a little tricky in the beginning but once you get the hang of it, you'll love it. I didn't enjoy it at first but after two games, I'm hooked! Try it and I'll bet you'll like it.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite card game, August 31, 2008

It has a lot of rules which makes the first play a little tough but once you know the rules, this is my favorite card game of all time. It mixes card playing and a western theme. What more could you ask for without an actual breakout of Texas Hold 'Em?

5.0 out of 5 stars I don't do titles, February 8, 2008
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars

This is the only board/card game that I've extensively play and still like. I gave away the set that I had, but I'd buy it again, if I could find enough people to play the darn thing.

I won't bore you with details such as the rules of the game or why I like it, but I would like to mention that there should be more board games that cater to those needing entertainment. It seems that most are created as intellectual endeavors (not why I play games) or mindless pastimes (usually not why I play games). The most interesting kind of games, of which Bang! is a good example, is social games. The kind that you can use to make new friends or get more out of your old ones (until you trade them in for store credit).

Yeah it's terribly educational. When I lost the English version of the rules, I had to learn Italian just to be able to play the game again.

It's about as durable as you'd expect something made of paper to be.
