Product Description

From the Manufacturer

In Freight Train, each player runs their own freight yard and several trains. Using these and a shared main yard, players take 11 different types of freight cars and compete to form the longest trains. The game lasts for 3 days, but when the yard foremen call it quits, that day is over. As each day wears on, tension mounts as players scheme to ensure that their trains will be the longest. It contains 35 locomotive cards, 7 cabooses, 15 bumper cards, end-of-day card, and wooden turn engine. It can be used from 2 to 5 players and children above 8 years.

This game I purchased at a local games store.

I like Mayfair games. Catan had its day. Lunar Rails is always a hit. Modern Art and Family Business are great.

Freight Train, on the other hand, is relatively boring, the rules are hard to follow, and overly folksy. In the mad rush of train games ten years ago, this one squeezed through, but its relatively short-lived in interest.

You try to collect the most of various types of railroad car for your train. Whomever has the most a particular type of freight car gets points associated with it. Did I add that the score keeping is tedious too? The method in which the yards move cars and the strategy in taking them is kind of interesting.

This game has complicated rules and is not a fast moving game. I bought it for game night with the in-laws. We were all a little confused by the instructions and had to improvise and make our own rules to make it work...
