Product Description

From the Manufacturer

Domaine is an intriguing new game of domain building by the creator of The Settlers of Catan. The king shall return... But before he does, the realm falls into anarchy and chaos. The lords of the kingdom struggle to improve their place and standing. New borders are drawn, and expanded through strength of arms and subtle maneuver. Each duke seeks to establish a claim over the most valuable parts of the kingdom before the king finally returns... In the dark of the Middle Ages, control of the land was the key to wealth and power. Can you control enough territory to become the most prestigious duke before the kings return? With the love for detail that has distinguished all of his designs, Klaus Teuber has created a game that is easy to learn, yet offers enough strategic depth to draw players back again and again. Are you clever enough to control the land, marshal your wealth, and seize the power and prestige of your own Domaine? This family strategy board game is for 2-4 players, ages 12 and up. It takes about 60 minutes to play

Domaine is a medieval land conquest game. The designer is Klaus Teuber whom many of you will recognize as the designer of the ubiquitous "Settlers of Catan". After designing the revolutionary game "Settlers of Catan", Klaus has given us "Domaine". And "Domaine" is an engaging and deep game!

Players vie for victory points. The player with the highest total at the end of the game is declared the winner. Players score points for the territories they control within a domaine. A domaine is created when a player has completely surrounded one of his castles and knights with borders. Forests are worth 1 point, villages are worth 3 and the royal city is worth 5. If a player controls all the mines of one type (all the diamond, gold, silver or copper mines) he scores 5 points. The game ends when a certain victory point total is reached (variable depending upon the number of players)or when the action card deck is exhausted.

Domaine uses a card driven action/combat engine. All action cards have two values on them: one is the value when sold the other is the cost when played. Players have a choice on their turn: sell an action card to get ducats or play an action card by paying the ducat cost. There are five different action cards: build borders, recruit knight, expand, deserter and alliance. Build borders allows a player to place borders and create domaines. Recruit knights lets players expand the military power of a domaine so they can expand or resist enemy expansion. Expand is used to increase the size of one of your domaines by up to two squares. The action card deck has a few "deserter" cards in it. For a substantial cost, the deserter lets you remove an opponent's knight and gain a knight of your own.

I LOVE this game! If you are a fan of the settlers of catan you the settlers of the stone age or any other games by Klaus tember(forgot how to spell it sorry) you will be sure to like this game. Each time you play the board is in a differnt possion, just like the settlers. There are nine tiles and you can put them togather any way you want so each time you play the board is differnt!!! It's not as hard as the settlers of cantan and it only takes about 1 hour to play. You can also play with only two pepole if the is a factor to you. It doesn't seem like many other pepole know about this game cause I couldn't find any review so I decided sence there are no other reviews I'd wright one. I hope you found this reviw helpfull and I would recomend buying this game!

I'm a board & video game freak addict. If it's new & good it's mine. And laidies & gents this is mine. It gets played at my house about once every 2 weeks. Depending on if we have a craving for dominion, domaine, or catan. Plus a few other ones every once in a while.

The great thing about this game is that anyone can play, and while you might think you're winning you can still lose at the last second.

Like catan the board chages each time, although setup is considerbly faster as their is only 9 square to lay out. the goal is to take teritory by making domains & gather enough Victory Points to win before other players. mines are your means for income/ resources which you then use to play cards from your hands to delvelop you castles.

Heres a quick rundown.

2-4 players.
layout board
shuffel cards in order A-E (or maybee D)
place castles & knights at start of game (depening on number of players = # placed)

at the start of your turn you get income for each different type of mine you control (maximum of 4)
silver = 1
copper = 1
gold = 1
dimanond = 1

There are 5 types of cards to aid you
Wall / border = build wall / border
Expand = Expand a currrent domain's border
Knight = increase army size
Steal Knight = decrease a neighbors army size & increase yours (expensive card)
alliance = truce (expensive card)

victorys are garnished from the following
forest = 1pt
village = 3pt
Royal City = 5pt
Mine Monopoly = 5pt (holding 3 of 1 type of mine)
Every 5 coins = 3pt (If the game runs out of cards)

First to the set number of points wins (determened by the number of players)
Or when you run out of cards in which case coins add to vicory points

The other reviewers did a great job explaining how the game works so I won't repeat all that. My husband and I LOVE Settlers of Catan but wanted something that we could play (2-person) by ourselves. This is a great game for that, and while personally, I don't like playing it as well as some others, DH loves it and our brother-in-law makes us bring it to every family event so that he'll get to play it with us.

Probably it's best feature is that it's very easy to learn and teach to others, which makes it a great game to bring to family gatherings. Someone new always wants to join in and it just takes minutes to explain and a few minutes of playing before they're comfortable with knowing what to do! Would highly recommend!
