Product Description

From the Manufacturer

Based on the award-winning Empire Builder System, Russia Rails lets players experience the unique challenges of rail-building in the former Soviet Union and the republics which have replaced it. Using erasable crayons, players design their own rail-networks across a geographically accurate map. Russian Rails features a unique time line orchestrated by event cards and a distance warp to accommodate the vast distances of the Soviet Union region. The game begins in the post WWII era, with players drawing rail lines and delivering loads wary of the inevitable fall of the Soviet Union. Build an empire from the Black Sea to the Baltic. Since YOU decide where to build your rails, every game will be a different experience. This strategy board game is for 2-6 players, ages 12 and up. It takes about 3-4 hours to play.

Great game to add to the collection of Empire Builder games.
Heidi
It's a lot like "Risk" where there is strategy involved, so it's a great thinking game, with some competition thrown in (of course someone wants to win!).
J. Neff
Empire Builder and Lunar Rails has resources in major cities that are almost entirely only available in major cities.

I purchased two "Russian Rails" games for gifts for a 21 year old young man and a 24 young woman and both were received with great enthusiasm. The games have been played a number of times since Christmas already. It's a lot like "Risk" where there is strategy involved, so it's a great thinking game, with some competition thrown in (of course someone wants to win!). I have enjoyed watching my children play this with each other. The game involves using crayons (which come with the game) to draw on the gameboard, so it does take time at the end to wipe the crayon marks off the board. However, they do come off easily. All in all, it's been great seeing everyone sitting around the table playing and interacting together.

Each rails game has a map that you need to draw your track on to pick up and deliver goods. You must manage building over different terrain and try to build an efficient network to pick up and deliver goods. Event cards can come into play and make things interesting.

As with all of the Rail games this one has some unique elements, like a card that has the Iron Curtain fall andsome of the rules for the game change.

My entire family love to play this game. An interesting twist on the original, this version adds in a government change and some rather interesting problems. It took us a while to figure out the cities, and the border crossing rule makes for more challenging track building (to avoid taxes). If you are a fan of Empire Builder, or any game in the series, this one is a must have.
