The game involves everything that Power Grid does, and then some. Planning, chance, diplomacy, economics, there is so much that can go wrong while planning the most in/efficient rails possible that no two games are likely to play the same with more than three players. This game is a great addition to any collection of family and friends games for friendly (or ruthless) games. It can take 45 minutes or 2 hours, it all depends on how complicated you make it and whether everyone is trying to win... or there is someone just trying to ruin someone's chances. This game is a definite 9/10

As an avid gamer, I have played most of the top games out there. Agricola, Power Grid, Puerto Rico, Settlers, Carcassonne, etc. Steam stacks up very nice with these games and is a good buy at around 40ish bucks. I was looking to get into a train themed game (one deeper than Ticket To Ride, which is fun but shallow) and had to pick between Steam and Age of Steam 2009 edition. The 20 dollar price difference as well as the superior board art made the call for me. If you're looking for a good train game, this is the game for you.

Good, but not Railroad 1830 or 1855,

Taken on its own merits this game is fun. However, if you are looking for Railroad 1830 or 1855 this is not quite the same. There is no stock nor stock manipulation and the Train technology is greatly simplified. Depending on what you liked about 1830 and 1855 this can be a positive or a negative. |
