If you are NEW to MAYA, grab this BOOK !,
By Iwan Kartiko (OZ-Syd) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Maya 4.5 Fundamentals (Paperback)
I started with MAYA FUNDAMENTAL 4, which I find very useful, step by step instruction, clear description of whatever going on in your screen. MAYA 4.5 FUNDAMENTALS is just another amazing masterpiece from Jim lammers and Lee gooding. I find the chapters are easy to follow. If you are new to MAYA (like me) or you have some experience with other 3d software, this book will guide you to work like a pro. You will learn from "What? MAYA?" to "Particle System and Dynamics" in no time If you still cant understand what's going on with some of the chapter, the video in the CD-ROM will get you up and running in no time! cheers!

Amazing!,
By Andrew Mays (Newman, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Maya 4.5 Fundamentals (Paperback)
Ever since I purchased Maya 4 Fundamentals, I've been practically glued to my computer. I loved the book so much I went out bought Maya 4.5 Fundamentals and it still had that great learning technique. These books are outstanding and the best thing about them is the CD-ROM that comes with them. If you get stuck on a tutorial, or just want to see how the tutorials are done, you can watch the authors as they do the tutorials! I recommend this book, and it's predecessor, Maya 4 Fundamentals, to anyone looking to get into the computer graphics industry using Maya.

Excellent Book,
By "mbohland14" (Mi USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Maya 4.5 Fundamentals (Paperback)
This book is excellent. The book was written so well that the book itself should teach you maya alone. AND the CD was done so well that the CD itself should teach you maya alone. Basically the first 4 chapters teach you all of maya and if you have some experiance you don't really need to go on. But the rest of the chapters are great also because they go into extreme details over all the different parts of maya. The authors did an excellent job with this book and the cd that comes with it. A lot of parts of the book can be used for future reference also. This book is worth a million dollars (in my mind).

Definetly for beginners,
By DARWIN (FL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Maya 4.5 Fundamentals (Paperback)
I have to admit this book is for beginners. If you never had any kind of exposure to Maya then this book is for you. It's well put together. Every project you do they give you the step by step that way they are no hang ups. By using this book you get familiar with the user interface and the short cuts that they layout for you making your work and learning process progress. The only reason why I gave this book a four star is because they don't give you the reason why they do this or why they make you do this but its really good first book to get. Also, the CD that accompany this book is well worth the price, actually you don't really need the book just the CD it self. All and All get this book is for beginner.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Maya 4.5 Fundamentals (Paperback)
I used this book in my first Maya modeling class. I believe that the book is good because it takes you step by step on very basic concepts. On the other hand, the CD files for modeling polygons is weak, not well explained. The approach is pretty general for the topics discussed. I should say that the book is good to have an overview of the software and some of the tools, but not to have a strong base to start building advanced skills.

Would recommend this book to anyone,
By Joe (N.E. Ohio) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Maya 4.5 Fundamentals (Paperback)
Being a student and new to computer graphics I found this book amazingly easy to read and easy to follow. I've had my nose in many computer program how-to books the past year and a half and this one is by far the best I've dealt with. The cd-rom is an invaluable tool that demonstrates each step in the creation of the projects but the text is not to be ignored. There are lots of tips and warnings that are given along the way that aren't mentioned on the cd. I've enjoyed every minute I've spent with it.

A Book No Student or CG Artist should Be With Out,
By A Customer
This review is from: Maya 4.5 Fundamentals (Paperback)
Maya fundamentals is ultimately the best source for beginners to pro Maya users to learn and improve there skills in the world of CG,The whole entire book is nicely written and orchestrated in providing a wealth of knowledge In a step by step easy to read instructions and tutorials, And if that wasn't enough they went a step farther and made a CD_Rom of all the chapters instructions, demonstrations and tutorial for reader to fallow along if it got to frustrating , which I thought was very COOL. I only wish other authors would do the same. I was a maya beginner and wanted to learn maya but didn't know really where to start Intel I stumbled across Maya fundamentals and now I can model texture and bring to life lively Humans and creatures, to name a few. THANK YOU Lim Lammers and Lee gooding.

Fantastic beginner's book,
By Andreas Rønning (Oslo, Oslo Norway) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Maya 4.5 Fundamentals (Paperback)
I wanted a book to help me thoroughly familiarise myself with Maya basics when i moved to Maya 4.5 from lightwave, and not only does this book deliver excellent video tutorials and well written entertaining information, but it actually has a chapter dedicated to familiarising lightwave and 3dsmax users with Maya. This book has been in my bag ever since i got it, and i am truly grateful to the authors. My productivity with Maya skyrocketed after the first 10 chapters. However, it should be noted that this book does not cover subdivision modelling. It does have a tutorial involving smooth proxy modelling, but a subd tutorial would have been nice.
