Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Buettner (SovieTrek, Lerner Publications, 1994) is no stranger to challenging bicycle treks. In February 1995, he and a team including Mayanist Julie Acuff, photographer Douglas Mason, and his two brothers, Steve and Nick, embarked on a three-month, 3,244-mile mountain bicycling expedition through Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, Belize, Guatemala, and Honduras to gain insights into the causes of the collapse of the Maya civilization around A.D. 900. Carrying laptop computers and a minisatellite dish on loan from Rockwell, these adventurers were able to link up with 40,000 schools involved in the project via Prodigy, as well as other Internet users. The team logged on twice a week, uploaded their findings, fielded questions from students and teachers, and received input from more than one million online participants. Buettner's book is a beautiful photographic account of this unique and often grueling journey. While short on serious archaeological analysis, the book nonetheless captures the magnificence of the Maya ruins and provides an unlikely collaboration of athletic adventure, high technology, and anthropology. 5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully Captured Journey, December 22, 2001
This review is from: Maya Quest: Interactive Expedition (Hardcover)
Buettner and Mason hit the mark with this beautifully illustrated and well written narrative of their journey through the Mayan lands. This is a must have for all children and adults who have an interest in anthropology or who have ever dreamt of traveling through foreign lands.

Two Thumbs Up, Boys!
