Maya Sloan grew up in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Her first novel, High Before Homeroom, was released in June of 2010. She has an MFA in Creative Writing from Boston University, as well as a MFA in Fiction Writing from the University of Arkansas.
Well, I know it has been a LONG time since I wrote on here (like, um, A YEAR)…sometimes life gets so crazy you don’t have time to blog about it, and I’m pretty sure that is a good thing!
The pace of my world…well, sometimes I don’t fully believe it myself. I wake up and am not sure what that
day will bring. And that can be invigorating and/or exhausting (usually both). But I wouldn’t have it any other way.
So, just a couple of the big thing
I know I haven’t written for a long time…when Thomas reminded me to do any entry, I was like, “But no one reads this except my mom!” Maybe that’s not true, and even if it is…I still love having this blog. Things have just been really busy. Hot Danish Artist Thomas Warming and I are working on a huge project…probably one of the most intense things I’ve ever worked on, and one of the biggest opportunities…vague, I know. I can’t say more, though, except this…no matter wha
I have a very close family. Unfortunately, both my grandfather’s died before I was born…and both my grandmothers passed years ago. So meeting Thomas’s grandmother Helga was extra important to me.
Thomas adored his grandparents, and the minute I met his grandmother it was obvious why…and it was obvious she adored him too. The moment she saw him it was like she’d been lit from within.
Unfortunately, she passed away last week at the age of 97. She’d
Well, I haven’t gone this long without a post for a while…and I miss it! Crazy how this blog turned into a kinda journal/scrapbook for me. Albeit a public one (and therefore a pretty damn narcissistic endeavour)…but still. I’m not sure if anyone even reads it (besides my mom…love you mom!) but having a place to reflect on everything going on kinda rocks.
Life has been crazy lately…lots of writing projects in process and nearing completion. And some just beginning (cr
To all my loved ones:
I’ve been doing quite a bit of freelance writing work…so I set up a website! I actually love doing this. Teaching and consulting keep my own work fresh.
Please spread the word to anyone you know who might need these services and I will give you a finders fee (and by finders fee I mean a coffee at Starbucks…maybe even the new 32 oz “Trenta”!)
But seriously, I do appreciate it!
PS All photographs for this and pretty much every other blog are taken by Hot Dane Thomas Warming www.thomaswarming.com
So, I finally did the BU reading. I was pretty f–king nervous.
I didn't know Thomas took this pic...me eating a hot dog and trying to figure out what to read TEN minutes before we were supposed to be there
Yeah, it was surreal. Remember that Sesame Street song “One of these things is not like the other one?” Well, that’s how I felt when I fo
A lot of people have been asking me about Emily since I posted about her being in the hospital. Lots of these people know her through me – have only met her once or twice – and she is so extraordinary (this chick makes an impression!) that they are worried for her…so for all of you, here she is:
Not only is she healed, she looks all glowy and practically renissance-painting-diety-esque…I actu
Well, a lot has been going on…like a crazy lot. So I haven’t had time to write in the blog. And here’s the thing: I miss it. I saw this t-shirt that said I don’t wanna read your fucking blog…and yeah, I get that. It is a truly narcissistic endeavor, blogging. And once, long ago, it started purely to advertise my book. Then at some point it became something more to me. A way to keep myself writing and reflect on my life and give shout-outs
So I guess there are some perks to having a friend like Will Smith I…besides the fact that he’s one of the coolest guys I’ve ever met…and the wisest. He gives the best advice. Sometimes you don’t want to hear it, ’cause it means you’ll have to get off your ass and do something productive instead of being lazy…but he’s pretty much always right. (And yes, Will, Thomas and I are already looking for a class to enroll in)
But then there are the crazy perks like getting to hang
Frantic Femme is one of the coolest chicks I’ve met in a long time…and she took the most amazing pictures of Thomas’s Tiki Birthday Party!!!
(and she’s a pretty extraordinary artist too, check her out here)
that balloon has been up there since Valentine's Day 2010. Crazy.

Stephan is adorable!
