5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't do without it September 3, 2011

I just had my third baby 5 weeks ago. My older two children are 4 and 2 and still need a lot of attention, so I knew that a baby carrier would be a must. I decided on a cotton ring sling, and after a lot of comparison of brands and prices, I settled on the Maya Wrap.

I ordered it through Amazon, and as always I was happy with how promptly it arrived.

Using it was a little tricky at first. I kept trying to use cradle hold, and the baby kept sinking down into the fabric, and his body kept curling into itself, causing me to worry about his breathing. After checking into some babywearing websites, I learned that the upright tummy-to-tummy hold is really preferable to newborns and less risky than cradle. It is demonstrated in the DVD that is included with the sling. That's what we've been using ever since. The baby is as content as he can be tucked against my chest right under my chin. Once he's in and I start moving, he usually lists to one side in a slight recline that's comfortable for him and entirely safe. I can look down and see his whole face as he sleeps peacefully.

I use this sling at least a few times a day. I use it around the house when he's awake and wanting to be held. He relaxes in it while I do housework and tend to the other kids. I use it at the grocery store, and I don't know what I'd do without it. The two other kids are in the two seats at the top of the cart. If I were to put a carseat in the back of the cart, there'd be no room for groceries. I use it just about wherever I take the kids, so that I can hold their hands in parking lots and still have my baby safe and sound against me.

I ordered a medium, which is for anyone 5'2" to 5'9". That's most women. A small is for those who are 5'2" and petite.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for what I was looking for. October 3, 2012

There are a lot of options for baby carriers to wear the baby. I think that you have to be aware of what your needs are, and why you want to use a carrier. I've listed my overview of pros and cons for the three carriers I've tried, and hope it will help you better decide which is best for you.

Also note that, as the baby gets bigger, all carriers are in some way, to some degree, going to cause discomfort. You've got +20 lbs strapped to your torso! It's bound to cause some discomfort. The key is finding which best suits your needs, and can minimize the discomfort the most.

Moby Wrap
I really loved the Moby for around the house and walking the dogs. I had a September baby, and the layers of fabric helped to keep him snuggly warm in our cooler house. It was VERY comfortable to wear, and he loved to be cuddled up in it. I thought he felt very safe, even for new mom standards. I also loved that it kept the baby hidden enough that random strangers couldn't walk up and touch him ("Oh a baby!! How CUTE!" let me touch his little face with my germy hands!). It has great head support, with little fear of suffocation.

The problem with the Moby is that it is a LOT of fabric to handle and wrap up. As another reviewer mentioned, it's not ideal for going out, and having to wrap up in a parking lot, or to unwrap and pack up. It can also get pretty warm. I didn't use it for more than a couple months for these reasons. But I am definitely going to pass it on to a friend about to have her first baby.

I think the Moby is perfect for people who are home more often (maybe a stay at home mom, especially if she has other children), especially for newborns. Again, it is VERY ergonomical, and probably the most comfortable of the carriers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Baby Loves it! November 6, 2011

I bought this after reading about Baby slings and the benefits of carrying your Baby. This is by far the best Baby product that I have purchased. I started using this when my daughter was 3 months old. My only regret is that I didnt buy this earlier. I put her in this and can do laundry, put away dishes, sort mail, pick up around the house. I can pretty much do anything but cook! She loves to go on walks around the neighborhood with me in this. She also likes grocery shopping and looks around quietly. I have used this 3 times at the airport and it is a lifesaver. It keeps her calm and lets me have my hands. When she is fussy at night, I walk around with her in this and she falls asleep. As a working Mother (in and out of the home) , this lets you have more bonding time with your Baby but allows a lot of efficiency. I havent figured out how to nurse with this on, yet. The green color is very nice. The included video is helpful as it does take a few tries to figure this out. I highly recommend this product. The 4 stars is because I do think it is pricey for a piece of cloth and 2 rings but it is still a great product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended! July 2, 2012
We almost exclusively "wear" our little one and were fortunate to receive (or borrow) several different new and used carriers - the Beco Gemini, Maya Wrap, Ergo, Bjorn, and Moby Wrap. Our daughter is a snuggler and loves being carried, so we have been doing so since she was a week old.

Our favorite carrier is the Beco Gemini, but a close second is the Maya Wrap due to it's simplicity, lightweight fabric, and pocket. It was especially perfect for her as a newborn (she was small at just over 6lbs), and I love that it can be used in a variety of positions well into toddlerhood. My husband and I can both comfortably use it, and it's simple to adjust in seconds. The tummy-to-tummy hold is ideal for newborns and basically puts them in the same position that they would be in a Beco Gemini or other front carrier. For hot summer days, the Maya is a better alternative to the Beco because it's a lighter weight and more breathable fabric.

I am 5'2 and very petite, but we received a large (it was given to us) in the cream color (love it!). As a previous poster mentioned, the tail is long (down to my mid-calf), but I usually flip it over my shoulder, so it's out of the way. Plus my husband is 6'0, so he can easily use it. The tail also makes a great nursing cover or sunshade, so while I could easily sew the tail shorter, I just haven't felt like doing so.

I also love how the Maya looks and that it has a zippered pocket that stores a few diapers, wipes, and my phone, so no need to carry a diaper bag. I can loosen the sling and lay her across my lap at a restaurant, and since she is usually knocked out by the time we walk to dinner, she will comfortably sleep through our meal.
