4.0 out of 5 stars A good overall picture although a bit technical
This is a good read for anyone interested in the 2012 prophecies, however, it is technical so for a layman like myself, some parts were not so easy to grasp, but the main concepts were interesting.

1.0 out of 5 stars Rubbish, No Connection to Actual Maya Thought
2012 is not the "end of the Long Count", it's merely the end of the current baktun, or 400-year cycle, the thirteenth such. The fourteenth baktun starts the next day. There is zero evidence that any Maya believed that was the end of the world, and in fact many references to distant-future dates exist on various stelae. There is zero evidence that any Maya believed that was the end of the world, and in fact many references to distant-future dates exist on various stelae. Mayan archaeology is a fascinating subject, but you won't find any of it in here. You might start with Michael Coe's "Breaking the Maya Code", Linda Schele and Peter Mathews's "The Code of Kings", or David Stuart's "Palenque: Eternal City of the Maya".

5.0 out of 5 stars Nicely balanced, September 26, 2008
This review is from: The Mayan Prophecies for 2012 (Hardcover)
This book should be considered by anyone reading about the year 2012 and what it might hold. I started looking at the 2012 information in the early 90's when there was little information available; now there are many choices and fear based thinking wants to know what is going to happen, "Is it the end of the world"; "What can I do to prepare" News flash you are going to die anyway someday, but what opportunity will 2012 hold or any year hold for you to grasp and become? Do you want to hold on to old ideas that are out of synch or do you want to grow and manifest the part of you that is the Soul/divine? Finally there is a book that offers a perspective that is balanced and approaches the topic from a different perspective. It does not limit the examination to strictly gloom and doom and conjecture, but looks at possibilities. A must for any 2012 library!
