About the Author

In her life, Dr. Maya Angelou has been a dancer, an actress, a director, an activist, a journalist, a teacher, and an award-winning writer. She is also a three-time Grammy Award winner for her autobiographical spoken-word recordings. She lives in Harlem, NY, and Winston-Salem, NC.

Lizzy Rockwell has written and/or illustrated 19 books for children. Lizzy lives in Norwalk, CT, with her husband, two sons, a dog, and two cats.

Maya Angelou has been waitress, singer, actress, dancer, activist, filmmaker, writer and mother. As well as her autobiography she has written several volumes of poetry, including 'On the Pulse of the Morning' for the inauguration of President Clinton. She now has a life-time appointment as Reynolds Professor of American Studies at Wake Forest University in North Carolina.

The only thing wrong with this (and its 3 companions) is that there aren't MORE of these books! Written by Maya Angelou with a heart for helping kids understand different cultures around the world.... I just wish there were more kids from more countries represented!

My 3-4 year old LOVED reading these books - and they gently teach that different is not inherently wrong. A lesson many of us adults need to be reminded of at times...

WELL worth the purchase (our library's only copy is frequently checked out / gone).
