5.0 out of 5 stars Quality traditional country, July 16, 2003
This review is from: Maybe the Moon Will Shine (Audio CD)
As I indicated in my review of her debut album, Marsha was good enough to be a major country star, but her music was unfashionable with the radio stations at the time, so this 1991 album marked the end of her career. Produced by Steve Fishell, this was her second and last album on MCA, after which she faded into obscurity. By surfing the net, I learned that Marsha has started recording again on a small independent label, beginning with a gospel album.

This album has some bluegrass influences that were absent from her debut, but both albums are equally brilliant. The songs here include A far cry from you (Steve Earle) and Trouble free (later covered by Rhonda Vincent) as well as the great title track and many other wonderful songs. Like her debut, this album contains some songs that Marsha co-wrote.

If you enjoy country music the way it used to be, with plenty of steel guitar, you will love this album. The playing time is short (half an hour), but the quality makes up for that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Marsha Thornton (Part II), October 14, 2007

Marsha Thornton's self-titled debut album was very influenced by the music of Patsy Cline. On her follow-up, "Maybe The Moon Will Shine", an Emmylou Harris influence is apparent. Produced by Steve Fishell, this release is just as great as the first album. I was hoping for many more releases from this great vocalist all through the 1990's, but unfortunately that didn't happen. Her label (MCA) dropped her after this & I read she was selling cell phones. I think that's a real shame because this girl can sing like nobody's business! My favorites on this CD are "You Better Straighten Up & Love Right" (which I have to listen to at least 3 times before the rest of the CD gets going), "A Far Cry From You", "Why Cry", & "In The Palm Of Your Hand."

5.0 out of 5 stars A TOTALLY ENJOYABLE ALBUM of CLASSIC COUNTRY., May 7, 2010

This review is from: Maybe the Moon Will Shine (Audio CD)
Once again Marsha Thornton's exceptional vocals make for a great album.

Embodied here is a mixture of classic country, western swing, and bluegrass.

The wonderful, rockin', bluegrass single,

"Maybe the moon will shine" only made it up the chart to #73 in 1991.

Proving that chart numbers don't measure the quality of the music.

This album was overlooked in the music 'shuffle' at the time.

Some superb, uptempo tracks that are noteable are

"A far cry from you"

"You better straighten up and love right"

"Why cry"

These break-up, make-up and makin' it on your own songs,

make this a well rounded album.

This is good material and Thornton's delivery

effectively produced a totally enjoyable album.

This release was not met with success in 1991.

It appears to finally be more appreciated now-a-days, and rightfully so.

This is Marsha Thronton's second, and unfortunately her last album by M.C.A. in 1991.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great "traditional" country!, December 1, 2006

I just recently discovered Marsha Thornton when I had heard her song (from her first self-titled album), "A Bottle of Wine & Patsy Cline" and I got that album (luckily for $10 on eBay and NOT for $50 as someone is selling it on Amazon for!). Her first album AND this second album is some great "traditional" sounding country. I hate to make comparisons, but in a way, Marsha sounds a bit like Pam Tillis - who is also a great singer!

But if you like "twangy", steel-guitar oriented type of country - BOTH of Marsha's albums won't disappoint! It's really great stuff!

5.0 out of 5 stars SUPERB "TRUE" COUNTRY!!, August 3, 2007

This is what country music was and should be!! This follow-up to her fantastic debut album, Marsha Thornton is one fine singer of THEEE country song!! Every cut again, is superb with the standout being the leader, "Straighten Up and Love Right" and "Always Believin". Any song on here could have been a hit single if radio would go back to pushing true traditional country instead of the rotten, bubblegum sixties sounding pop of Faith, Shania, Martina and so on......Too bad! This CD proves "True Country" is alive and well. Its timeless.
