This is one impressive biography. I never got into Bernie Mac's comedy but after reading a few pages of this book I decided to buy it and I'm glad I did. Bernie Mac's life has been a series of fateful encounters. The first time he sees Bill Cosby on TV and notices how Cosby's jokes cheered up his sad (with good reason) mother is a turning point. At five he decides to be a comedian and he sticks with that plan. His dream and his mother's love keep him moving past the neighborhood gangs, out of the "dumb kid" classes, into a strong marriage, devoted fatherhood and finally success.Bernie is a funny man but he's dead serious about duty, parenthood, marriage and doing the right thing. This book will stay with you long after you come to the final page.

A Must-Read for Men and Boys Everywhere,

Maybe You Never Cry Again is the story of Bernie Mac's life. Bernie Mac has a lot to say and a lot of things to teach. From his fatherless childhood to moonlighting as a comedian while frying fish during the day, Bernie lays it all out for the world to see and learn from. Forget about sports stars as role-models....all you need is Bernie Mac. A man who knows how to get things done, no matter how unpleasant they may be. If more people had Bernie's attitude toward life, this country would be a far better place.

There is a serious side to every comedian, and Bernard McCullough is no different. Bernie Mac takes the time, in this autobiography, to share the intimate portrait of his life and pay tribute to those who influenced, inspired, and encouraged him on his comedic journey. I've enjoyed his comedy, when he toured with The Kings of Comedy, and his television show, but to go behind the scenes really enlightened me. Maybe You Never Cry Again isn't your typical chronological display of life events that often has you reading the book to fall asleep. No, if you listen any to Bernie Mac, you can hear him saying the words as you read. The closest I've come to an audio book without actually listening to one. The way the words are written is exactly the way your mind imagines that he would say them. Bernie Mac shares a lot in this book. I like the way the book was laid out - each chapter had a poignant quote that dealt with the theme of the chapter. There was a picture of Bernie and/or his family included in each chapter as well which further personalized the book and encouraged the reader to see the intimate side. Each reader can pick up something that we can carry forward in our own lives. He's never forgotten from whence he came and he's kept it real throughout his career. He's been true to his craft, true to his family and true to himself, which makes Maybe You Never Cry Again, a wonderful read.

Mac Man does it again with this one.,

Bernard (Bernie Mac), has done it again. "Maybe You Never Cry Again" is one serious novel into the life of the Mac Man. This book showed me another side of Bernie Mac that I loved reading about. The man through victorious triumphs, love, and haters...he bet all odds to show he was determined and made it. I have a new found respect for Bernie Mac and his career of comedy. He is one of the best comedians out in this world today. I love the "Macisms" throughout the book, they help me overcome some obstacles in my life. He became a man in my sense at an early age. He knew what he wanted and went for it after defeating life's set-backs. I give this book five stars it is truly what Bernie Mac stands for and is today because of it.

I am a huge Bernie Mac fan as it already is. This book will keep you laughing and it will also make you look at "the Mac" in a whole new light. I would recommend everyone to read this book if they want to know what a real rags to riches type of story is all about.

An enjoyable account of a very successful man who worked tremendously hard. It's the American Dream originating from Chicago's Southside. I have been playing this for my 8th grade nephew on the drive to and from school. Bernie Mac's autobiography is steeped in values: respect adults, take pride in your work no matter the job, always look for the positive, and never take advantage or do harm. It's a blue collar guide to success. (Parents Note: There is some swearing but it's minimal and not gratuitous.)

I picked up my copy last week at one of his NYC book signings, and finished reading it by the weekend. You'll get some of the laughs you'd expect from a comedian recounting his life story, but also a good sense of the life lessons that have made Bernie Mac into the man he is. In particular, his relationship with his mother helped give him the will to continue on as an aspiring comedian, and her words can be found throughout his book and put into use in his life. If you're drawn to the type of comedy Bernie Mac does, or the type that Eddie Murphy showcased in Delirious and Raw, you will probably find this book hard to put down.

I was deeply moved by this book. It was insightful and funny. His determination to make it despite the odds. Is a lesson everyone could benefit from. His commitment to his wife and family also was a plus for me. I haven't read an autobiography this good since Don't Block the Blessing.

I'm still not over the loss of George Carlin, so it seems really unfair, to lose another of our most important entertainers: a comedian. For me, comedians are much more than people who make me laugh; they inform and help me put things into perspective.Bernie Mac was from my neck of the woods: the south side of Chicago. We grew up around the same time, and we had something in common. His book: "Maybe You Never Cry Again," reminded me of how I had also used comedy, as a device to deflect from the pain in my life. I first met him just after 9/11, at his book signing at Eso Won Books, an Afro-centric book store in Los Angeles. The people there know me, because I am one of the few white persons attending its book signings. The night that Bernie was to appear, Fox News interviewed me, no doubt, because I was one of the two white folks there. "I think that comedy is very important, especially now. Comedians will be instrumental in helping to heal our wounds," I said. As approached him, Bernie broke into a huge smile. "Aw, baby, you can party with me anytime!" he beamed. I leaned in and said "Bernie, you keep healing the world with your comedy." "Thank you for that," he said, embracing me. I've seen Bernie's standup, and had always been amazed at his honesty. I saw The Kings of Comedy four times in the theater, as well as adding it to my DVD collection. It will always be one of my favorites, as will he. The fact that so few knew that he was ill, is a testament to the kind of person he was - and his legacy will remain as he lived his life: without compromise. It's a great lesson for everyone, and the best tribute to him, would be that we try to do the same.

Bernie Mac did it again. He made me laugh and cry all at the same time. He took me through his journey and I felt like I was right there. I can't wait to read his other book.
