I initially experienced the same problem most users did upon opening this product, which is that there is no way of advancing the wax color once it is worn down (which takes all of two uses). The casing is plastic, not wood, but I tried sharpening the product anyway to see if it gave me any more to work with, and was surprised to find that it is actually meant to be sharpened. The pencil itself, and the included brush, work fantastically well--much better than any other product I've tried, especially since so many brands don't even bother making anything lighter than a medium brown. The brush is fantastic and really gets my brows shaped and set well.

However, nowhere on the packaging does it tell you this. Terrible, terrible, terrible packaging and presentation when most users assume it can be used only a few times. I love Maybelline products and use them for almost all my cosmetic needs, but this was an incredible oversight on their part. They're doing themselves a terrible disservice; another color of this product has received all one-star reviews because no one tried sharpening it. I can't honestly say why I even thought to, aside from trying to get one more use out of what I'd thought was an aborted product. Hopefully these reviews will encourage them to reconsider.

Maybelline created a nice soft, semi-waxy product that holds the color pigment and is easy to apply. Soft means it doesn't pull at your brows or skin when applying, but not so soft that it runs or smears. The problem is the pencil design. This pencil is in a plastic usually reserved for self-sharpening pencils. Not so here. You have to muscle it in a pencil sharpener but the force needed to peel the plastic causes much of the product to break off or get mashed in the sharpener. I've wasted a good third of the product this way. If Maybelline would put this in a wood pencil form or in a self-sharpening plastic pencil this would be a great product. As it is I feel I've wasted my money.

At first I liked this product. But as I used it I couldn't figure out how to get the pencil to twist up. Apparently, a sharpener is needed. Who sharpens plastic? Maybelline needs to either make it a wood pencil so it can be sharpened or so it can be twisted out of the middle; otherwise, it's pretty useless after you reach the plastic. If I had known that was the case, I would not have purchased it.

I am very sad that I ever found this product. I am sad because it did make my brows look great, full and natural but it is nearly impossible to sharpen. It is housed in a plastic casing that is supposed to be as easily sharpened as a traditional wood pencil. I have broken an urban decay sharpener, an industrial strength pencil sharpener and everything in between. The pencil did sharpen but not in an even manner and the plastic bits around the tip became craggy and sharp.

I will not buy this again. At 7-8 dollars it is too expensive to only use it for a week or 2 before you have to buy a replacement.

You MUST use a sharpener with this brow pencil.

I thought it would twist up after using it up after few uses but couldn't figure out how. Then I read the an earlier review that said you have to use a sharpener. I thought why not give it a go since it was already wasted if it didn't work. The plastic shaft is really quite soft and sharpened just fine, in fact, it was easier than a traditional wooden pencil.

I do like the product and would have given it 5 stars if it was a twist up product.

It is so frustrating to believe you've purchased a twist-up pencil, only to discover that it's a plastic casing around the product that you are supposed to "sharpen". Someone at Maybelline messed this one up, badly. Writing to them, for sure, on this one!

I bought this eyebrow pencil at Target for like $7. It was AWESOME. I loved how it blended in so well that you couldn't see I was wearing anything but that I had amazing brows. The only thing I'm dissapointed about is of course what ever one else is saying, once you reach the end of the tip there is no way of moving the product up. I pulled the brush off at the end and its just a white plastic stump. I did however take others advice and actually sharpen the pencil even tho it is plastic. I have a CoverGirl basic pencil sharpener, to see if this "sharpening" would work I used the bigger side incase I broke it. Come to find out it actually sharpens very easily. The plastic that the pencil is incased in is very soft. I will have to update this review in a few weeks to let everyone know where the product ends. It says its .02 oz. My other eyeliners are 1.2oz so i'm guessing that i'll only get a few weeks out of this product. I'm extremely disappointed in the design of this eyebrow pencil. Like other have said there are no instructions on how to "sharpen" the pencil. I'm assuming once people get to the end they end up throwing the pencil away because there is no explanation and not buying the product again. For $7 I think its way too much money for the amount of product you get.

Such an awesome color ! Most brands only carry black, ugly brown, or blonde but nothing for red heads.
Maybelline came up with just the right natural looking color.
BUT... (and its a big but) :)
Couldn't sharpen it, so I bought a Revlon Sharpener that works on plastic pencils. That finally worked after much maneuvering.
I still have to shape the very soft point with my fingers to get it to hold shape. Every stroke, it gets mushed down and I have to shape it again. Half of it ends up on my fingers.
Please, Maybelline, you know I love you, but put it in a wooden pencil and make it just a tad harder so I can keep a narrow point on it.
