I wish I would have paid close attention to the reviews. Most of the positive reviews have been made by people with little girls. It does not work for boys. As a previous reviewer indicated, there is a gap between both the adult seat and the toilet as well as between the little seat and the adult seat. Too much leaks out from both gaps. 5.0 out of 5 stars Great Transitional Potty Seat!, August 20, 2010

We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this seat!!! Our daughter was ready to transition to the "big" potty but she is so small, that she couldn't sit comfortably - even holding on to the sides, of the regular toilet seat. I purchased this hoping it would help her to feel more comfortable so that we could remove her separate toddler potty chair (I was SOOOO done with dumping it, & cleaning it 10+ times a day!!!!).

She LOVES her new seat! She says - now I can use the big potty like Mommy & Daddy! She was so excited when it arrived she had to pretend to use it right away. We installed it immediately - which only took about 5 minutes - very simple and easy - and she climbed up to try it - she was so excited - She exclaimed - "Look Mommy - I not hold on!!!" "I'm a big girl!"

The seat insert holds very firmly to the lid with the magnet and the adult seat stays put in the up position as well - husband tried and tested - it works wonderfully!

It looks nice too. High quality white wood, with pretty chrome hinges, and easy to clean - which is a HUGE bonus for Mom!

I highly recommend this seat for anyone with a toddler who they are trying to transition to the grown-up toilet!

We are buying one for our other bathroom as well!

*note* It is also available in the round version - be sure you measure your toilet seat before you order and double-check that you are ordering the correct one!

As a previous reviewer indicated, there is a gap between both the adult seat and the toilet as well as between the little seat and the adult seat. Too much leaks out from both gaps. We got it and installed it yesterday and have had too many leaks already. Wish I could figure out an easy solution. It is a very nice looking seat but no functional in my home.

3.0 out of 5 stars Check Your Potty First!!!!, March 2, 2011

This review is from: Mayfair 86CP 000 NextStep Built-in Potty Seat with Non-Tarnish Chrome Hinges, Round, White (Tools & Home Improvement)
I wish I would have known that this seat is not for ALL toilet seats. I don't mean round or long toilets, I mean how the cover is screwed into the toilet itself. No where in the literature online does it indicate that you need to have a system that screws into a bolt that you then tighten underneath (or for some, inside) the toilet. Our 4 year old toilet (Kohler) is the kind of toilet that uses a toilet seat that doesn't have a backing to the screw. If this doesn't make sense, basically all you need to do it check to see if your toilet seat comes off with a screw underneath the toilet, and if it does, you are good to go. Unfortunately, this didn't work for us. Paranthetically, it incredibly heavy from the plastic seat I am used to, might be difficult for little fingers to navigate.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great concept that could use quality and design improvements, May 15, 2011

This review is from: Mayfair 86CP 000 NextStep Built-in Potty Seat with Non-Tarnish Chrome Hinges, Round, White (Tools & Home Improvement)
We just purchased our second Mayfair/Bemis toilet seat for our family bathroom. We have 2 children who currently use it, a girl and a boy. It's functional, attractive and is a nice solution. However, like other reviewers mentioned, there are quality issues and functionality limitations that could really use some work.

Pros:
-Functional design, the nesting seat is a great solution
-Does the job (best for girls)
-Attractive, looks nice
-Not all that expensive

Cons:
-Screws that come with seat are too loose. They loosen up over time and the whole seat starts to slide around on its hinges. This causes a misalignment of seat with bowl and (in our case) it can damage the rubber tabs. Ours actually shredded from sliding around and hitting the bowl at an angle.
-The screws rusted over time, and I had a very hard time removing them. Had to use a lubricant and tools to remove them to replace the seat. This time around I treated the screws before inserting them. I recommend getting stainless steel screws if you can.
-The seat is made of pressed wood (not REALLY wood), and when nicked it will suck up fluid (water, pee). Over time in our case the spot cracked and the "innards" started coming out. That's why we replaced it. Unfortunately I noticed the one I got also has a couple nicks I didn't notice.
-Not great for little boys who sit to pee. They will invariably pee between the seat and toilet... spilling on the front of the seat or on the floor.
-This seat is heavy, if you accidentally drop it, it will bang down hard and could accidentally hurt a little hand if the child tries to lower the seat on their own.

I was not aware of the KOHLER K-4732-0 Transitions Quiet-Close Toilet Seat, White seat when I purchased this seat again when the first one had to be thrown away. I probably would have paid the extra money for better design.

The round potty seat does not work for our son. He just turned 3 and is potty training. The hole is simply not big enough. He has to lean far forward and push "it" down or pee will go everywhere.

I really like this toilet seat. the only downside is that there is no guard or anything for little boys so my son has a tendency to pee through the spaces of the seat. This can be remedied by teaching him to aim down but its still a bit of a hassle. Overall I really like it though.

Bought this for my 2 yr old daughter. It is much cleaner & more attractive than the removable potty seats. It also makes her feel like such a big girl! Love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great seat for shared bathrooms, September 15, 2010

Our four year old son has been using the regular toilet without any kind of "potty seat" for months, and during the day it was no big deal. At night it was an issue, however. When he was tired and half-awake at 3 AM, he'd scream for help using the bathroom because he was too sleepy to hold himself up.

I ordered this seat because I was tired of fishing my poor half-asleep son out of the toilet. I'm so glad I did! It took less than five minutes to install and about the same amount of time to explain it to him. Since we've started using it, he no longer needs help using the toilet. And I can finally sleep through the night!

I love that it's easy to switch between the transitional seat and the normal seat, so guests shouldn't have any trouble using that bathroom either. I'm very pleased with this purchase and definitely recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best potty seat!, October 5, 2011

What a GREAT invention!!!! Just what I have been needing.

Toddler opening is small enough for 2 year old tushie.

When you lower the lid, the strong magnet grabs the toddler seat so that when you open it again, the toddler seat is up. But easy to put down--smooth operation. (I don't let my daughter do it herself because she lets it drop and bang down, and i don't want it broken, or for her to hurt her fingers).

VERY easy installation (unscrew the wing nuts from underneath the old seat, put in the new screws, tighten, place the seat on, lock the covers into position)

Very solid, sturdy and easy to clean. The finish is smooth and clean.
I have the round one and it fits perfectly.

It looks like a totally normal toilet seat, which I like, and I no longer have to hang up the old potty seat in my bathroom, put it on the toilet every time my kid had to go, and then handle it again to take it off. This is infinitely more convenient and seems more sanitary.

Not sure what else I can say--this just seems like the most logical solution to the problem of having little ones sharing the main bathroom with bigger folks. This would be fantastic in a main hall powder room, where your guests are going to frequent and you don't want the nasty little potty chair or removable potty seat in there!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome seat for guest bathroom, July 13, 2011

This review is from: Mayfair 86CP 000 NextStep Built-in Potty Seat with Non-Tarnish Chrome Hinges, Round, White (Tools & Home Improvement)
I love this product. It is clean-looking, sturdy, and I love that now I have a regular toilet seat for all family and guests, that I can easily flip down into a "toddler" seat for my son, who is currently training. No dirty soft potty seat to put on and off and figure out where to hang in my guest bath! Most guests don't even notice that this seat is different than any regular one. My son loves this seat as well, since he feels like he's using the "adult" potty seat (he drags over a step stool to climb up there, then turns around and sits... for now, I'm separating and pulling down his little seat because the magnet is strong, but that's a good thing in my book... don't want guests getting smacked in the back with it!). Yes, you must train your sons from the beginning to "point it down," and you may have some leakage in the beginning until he figures that out completely. BUT it's the same on a regular toilet, or any seat without that little boy blocker in the front. This "potty seat" legitimately looks and acts just like a smaller version of a regular toilet seat when it's down. One thing I was very concerned about when purchasing was the strength of the lid of the seat... have no fear with this one. It's solid! My husband or I can comfortably sit on the toilet lid while we're in the bathroom with our son, bathing him or whatever. No fear of caving in. Other than that, it took me all of 3 minutes to install (our toilet is standard size, which is something like 5 inches between the seat's screws/hardware). Overall, great purchase and I highly recommend it!
