I bought one elongated toilet seat and one round recently; and today, I'm back to buy another round seat

The Mayfair slow close seats are great. My husband installed them easily, and he's not the handyman type.

When I bought the seat, I wondered if it was only the seat that lowered slowly or if it was also the lid. Well, it's both. I love it. It's whisper quiet; but if I need to close it quickly, I can push it down to hurry it up.

The entire seat does come off for cleaning, but I find it takes a bit of a push to turn the knob and pull it off. I put it back easily, though. I think I'll just leave it on like a regular seat unless it needs serious cleaning.

UPDATE: I have two round toilets. One of them had a smaller seat on top than the other one leading me to believe one was elongated and the other round. Well, they are both round and this seat fit both round toilets. Take a good look at your toilets seats before buying!

Pretty good seat, install was easy, quiet close worked well and continues to do so, but after about 6 months, the seat cracked, and I can verify it wasn't due to extreme circumstances b/c it happened with me on it, and I weigh 165lbs. The material is a wood composite that feels good and strong compared to many of the cheap plastic seats out there, but this one didn't hold up.

My wife and I moved into a new house earlier in the year that already had a slow close toilet seat on one of the two toilets. I decided to upgrade the older, colder, and louder plastic toilet seat so that no one accidentally slammed the toilet seat on those late night bathroom visits. The Mayfiar toilet seat is by far more comfortable than the standard plastic seat; even on cold nights the seat does not leave you with cold chills as it has a solid wood feel to it. It closes as advertised, slowly and quietly. Better yet, it takes <5 minutes to install and can be easily removed for cleaning owing to it's locking-unlocking hinges.

I couldn't find a better price (certainly not at the big box stores) and the seat arrived in 3 days even with standard shipping. I HIGHLY recommend this product for everyone as every time I visit the bathroom at friend's houses I forget that their toilet seats aren't slow close as I accidentally slam them down, even after I sit down on the cold plastic. I am quite surprised that this seat does not get 5 stars from everyone as at the end of the day, it's a slow close, quiet, and extremely easy to clean toilet-seat. You don't need to program it. There are no buttons. What more could you want?

I live in a hi-rise apartment and after replacing an old perfectly fine toilet seat they damaged, the management put in an extremely cheap wooden one. Within a year it chipped and peeled and stained from the toilet cover rug I used. They finally after 4 years replaced it with the cheapest most uncomfortable piece of plastic -- it was so bad I just had to buy a seat for myself (and this is an expensive hi-rise and I live in the penthouse.)

After doing the usual Amazon search, I decided on this Mayfair. I liked the idea of the seat not banging when closed. My partner gets up several times a night to use the bathroom and I have been trying to train him to close the seat afterwards -- typical male-female quandary.

So I got this seat. It is comfortable enough though not exceptionally so. But the seat takes forever to come to a close, I like the seat to be closed while flushing and if you just give a normal tap it would take over 5 minutes to close.

I've decided just to force it to close -- it still takes a couple of minutes to close the last inch or so -- but I wonder if my forcing it will wear out the slow mechanism.

Funnily enough when you open the seat it gives a louder than normal bang -- so that is quite a trade off and basically neutralizes its advantage,

I solved this however by putting on a thick toilet seat cover rug. I use one any way as it is part of the decor of the bathroom. But I don't use a toilet seat cover in my other bathroom. Fortunately that still has the old toilet seat so it looks fine and is actually more comfortable than the Mayfair.

One comment on the reviewer whose critique was rated "most helpful.'I too had problems with tightening it down and the seat sliding. It turned out that I did not have the head the screws aligned correctly. Once I corrected that -- it was extremely tight no slipping or sliding. But it is not obvious that is the problem -- and it is hit or miss if you get everything lined up right. I assume with practice -- it will become easier.

I don't regret the purchase but I wish it were better designed.

I've owned both an elongated and round version of the Kohler Quiet Close and I personally thought they were good. But recently the round version, which is used more, started cracking around the closures that connect to the toilet screws. If you really look at it, the design isn't really that good for the long-term. So, we went "amazoning" and came across MayFair. It had great reviews and so we purchased one. As soon as it arrived I was shocked at how heavy, in a good way, this TS is. Reading the cardboard box I found that it was created from recycled wood which is a plus and to top it off, it was made in the USA. The design is extremely interesting and when this seat locks in, it locks in. The slow close is extremely silent. You will actually install this and push the seats and stay there and watch them close (I promise you =). I also didn't like the feeling of the Kohler's versions as I felt I was "sinking" in. This TS has a "normal" flat seat.

I'll be looking to get another round for my other toilet as it is that good. I will also update this post as needed.

This seat is great quality for the money. I loved the one I got so much, I ordered another one for another bathroom. It's comfy and sturdy so I don't have to worry that the seat will go flying one way while I go another because the cheap bolts are broken! My biggest gripe is why does the design have to have that groove on the top. I'd love a smooth, more modern look. Why do people add such unnecessary ornamentation to lower cost things? Seems like it would be easier to make a straight, clean mold than one with a bump in it. But, except for that, the seat was easy to install, stays in place, and is easy to remove and clean. Another review stated that it was too hard to undo and another said it was flimsy but I have experienced neither. Again, for the amount of money, it's a bargain because other slow close seats can be double this price.

Bought on 9 October and half of the seat was falling off by 1 November. I threw out the cardboard box and although it had a 1 year warranty on it, I am now stuck with purchasing another Toilet Seat. This time I will stick with a cheap seat that lasts years instead of an expensive seat with plastic screws that lasts 3 weeks!!! This seat SUCKS! Don't buy it. Save your money. You can buy 9 seats in a year for the price of this piece of junk and replace it monthly since this one doesn't last past a month anyway. Bad thing is the only one using it was my 10 year old son. And that was only part time because he uses my bathroom with the cheap seat 90% of the time. We can't figure out how this seat came apart.

Within 7 months of purchase, the hinges began to corrode on both seast I bought. It was very difficult to remove the seat because the hinge covers wouldn't slide to the unlock position, maybe because of the corrosion. The underside of the hinge had gray-white chalky stuff caking off all the time which I was constantly wiping off the porcelain toilet. The metal coating on the hinges also came right off. I wouldn't say I cleaned excessively or with strong detergents, in fact I clean with vinegar. I don't know if that would corrode the metal.

I am returing them to the store tomorrow to see if I can get a refund.

Really easy to install, I guess. I handed it to my 11 year old and was going to go help when I got a chance but he came out and said it was finished too quickly. He had never removed or installed a seat before. I like the no slam feature but you cannot override it. If you want to grab the seat and close it you will find yourself frustrated, it wants to close verrrry slowly and will not be rushed. I just have to get used to it. The quick remove feature is the best, though. To clean I snap the whole thing off, run it under the shower, and pop it back on. Now I know there is no gross build up under or in the hinges.

This is the second time I have purchased these slow closing toilet seats. They are so nice to have, as you need not hold the seat in order to close it, you just give the lid a tap and it closes on it's own very slowly and is very quiet when it reaches the seat. They are of very good quality also, and easy to clean, as you can take the entire seat off with two snaps at the screws in the back and just lift them off to clean the bowl area....(you don't actually have to remove, but I think it is easier to get all soil from around the hinges if you do this). I would recommend these seats highly, and Amazon's pricing was very good.
