MFG0479 Street Car Board Game Mayfair

In Streetcar, players try to build a trolley route across New Orleans, competing against other players who are trying to build their own route. Each player has specific locations that they must build to, laying track one square at a time, adding new twists and turns to the board. When two players disagree about where things should go, the tracks can become a jumbled mess of loops and dead ends. You must place your track as best you can to navigate the route. The first player to build a complete route and race their trolley through all the right stops wins!

The object of The New Orleans Trolley Game is to be the first player to build a streetcar line through New Orleans and take your streetcar on an inaugural run. You and up to four other players receive one line card (indicating a streetcar line) and one route card (indicating the stops that must be made). The latter card determines the start and stop points for your streetcar lines, as well as the locations where it must make connections on its route. You build your track by laying two track tiles per turn. Once your route is complete, you're ready for an inaugural run. The first player to successfully complete an inaugural run wins! --Alison Golder

Mayfair has done it again. Some people describe Streetcar as "The Very Clever Pipe Game" meets "Iron Dragon". Even if that means nothing to you, rest assured that Streetcar is another one of Mayfair's fun games that only take a couple hours to play so you don't need to have an entire day free. The rules are quite simple. Each player takes turns placing square pieces of railroad track with the eventual goal of being able to get from point A to point B stopping at three special spaces along the way. The trick is that no one except you knows where your train needs to begin, end, and stop along the way. When players finish laying their track, they reveal their route and then race to complete one run of their route. The first person to travel his or her route wins.

Streetcar is one of my favorite games. It's a low-complexity (for adults, at least) tile-laying game about building the most efficient streetcar route through New Orleans. Each player in turn lays track in trying to build their route in the most direct way possible. However, the game also has a racing element which makes the end very tense and exciting. Amazon is offering this at a great price-- and this game is a winner.
My only complaint would be that the tiles themselves are a bit thin and flimsy, but otherwise the game is splendid. Enjoy.

We play this one frequently and is best with 3-4 players. Too many and usually one or more are so far behind they loose interest.

This game doesn't have much to do with New Orleans. References to the city are limited to a few postage stamp sized photos on the board. Most disappointing to me, the locations of the references on the board bear no resemblance to the actual geographic locations of the sites mentioned. I had to rush out and find another gift for my New Orleans buff after this arrived.
