4.0 out of 5 stars Gotta have for Fixx fans
Probably no one else knows it exists. Which is a pity, because even at 10 years old, this music stands way above the horrible sludge popular today.

Generally it sounds very much like a Fixx album, except the production is a little rougher, Jamie's missing and a few of the songs could have been replaced by the best songs of the moment available from other band...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good solid CD by Cy
This is a good pleasent work by Cy. It's not a masterpeice but will please Fixx fans and the casual listener. It reminds me a bit of the Fixx CD "Ink". Probably because it has the same producer. I always enjoy Cy's real take on the world.

Probably no one else knows it exists. Which is a pity, because even at 10 years old, this music stands way above the horrible sludge popular today.

Generally it sounds very much like a Fixx album, except the production is a little rougher, Jamie's missing and a few of the songs could have been replaced by the best songs of the moment available from other band members. But it has what really brings you to listen to this music, Cy Curnin's unique voice and consistently interesting music. I can think of few groups (or parts thereof) the muse has been kinder to over the years.

One thing is made clear by this album; Cy Curnin makes up an awful lot of what the Fixx is. Without him there would be no such thing, the Doors without Morrison, despite the talents of the rest of the band. What a remarkable man he is, and to labor so long under the radar. You wonder if anyone will ever take note? Sometimes painters aren't revered until after their time, but with the crushing volume of bland music being pumped out daily, you wonder if the really good stuff will remain forever hidden in the slush pile.

PS, "Days of Our Lives" is an essential song, the favorite on my entire Fixx playlist. I'd love to hear the band re-record this, maybe stretch it out some, get Jamie's guitar in there and let Cy really wail.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mayfly Rocks!, June 26, 2005

A really good effort by Cy Curnin. Someone wrote that this sounds like a Fixx album, and I would have to disagree. Primarily acoutstic, it is filled with some great pop songs, some of which rock surprisingly hard, particularly Unshakeable Faith. Janey Clewer's vocals mesh well with Cy's and makes it a track that I can't seem to get enough of (I think that this is my fifth or sixth listening in a row).

In a sane world a song like Unshakeable Faith would be at least a top ten song. The whole album seems more inspirational, and less obtuse than most of the Cy Curnin's work with the Fixx and oddly enough reminds me of Geoff Tate's (the lead singer of Queensryche) really good, radio friendly solo effort.

Another strong track is Suburban America; a remarkable song on a remarkable album.

An album not only for those us who are fans of the Fixx (who are still going strong, btw) but for anyone that likes sharp hooks, well-written lyrics, and good feelings.

Excellent solo album from the Fixx front man...It shows you where much of the song-writing talent comes from for this group over the years...

I have followed the Fixx from the beginning. I have never been disappointed. I was pleasantly surprised with Cys' solo. His writings are intelligent and thought provoking. and I am never worried if a child of a Christian walks in. He is high class. He can say what he needs to say without being trashy. In the booklet it said that he recorded it one time. He never went back over the vocals! It has a unique sound. Not so much like the Fixx. Some of it is a little bluesy. ['I'm getting out'] I love it. It the kind of rock you would expect from Mr. Curnin. It is a must for Fixx collectors.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enormous CD of the best voice of rock, February 25, 2005

With The Fixx it has desmostrated to be a privileged singer and a voice that was born for the rock, in all variants. This CD confirms that Cy Curnin is an important part of The Fixx. Group that has been denied by the stupid critics and MTV. Frank Zappa already said some day to it: "in a perfect world my songs would have been successes". Cy Congratulations!!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars A slow, tepid, boring effort by the once great Cy, November 3, 2005

In his heyday, Cy Curnin was one of my favorite songwriters out there. Shuttered Room, Reach the Beach, and Phantoms are amazing efforts and 20 years later I still listen to them often. Cy's thought provoking lyrics notwithstanding, The Fixx offered a unique sound that transcended pop music and stood the test of time. However, over the past decade something terrible happened, Cy hit middle age and everything changed. Cy's lyrics remained wistful, yet the Fixx sound became bland, adult contemporary sludge. The last few Fixx albums amount to nothing more than giant sleeping pills. Gone are the unusual hooks and catchy tunes. In their place are boring indistinguishable songs laden with tedium. Don't believe me? Listen to Amazon's samples of Cy's long-awaited solo effort. I realize it's not supposed to be a Fixx album, however in the end it sounds no different than the Fixx offerings of the 90s. If you're a Fixx fan, don't get fooled into believing that this is anything more than self-indulgent tripe. You've been warned.
