Newest Vera Nazarian Fix, January 6, 2007
This review is from: Mayhem at Grant-Williams High (Paperback)
An interesting lesser work from Vera Nazarian. Jimmy Ross and his older sister Emily go to Grant-Williams High, which was built over a portal to Hell that materialises at inconvenient times, such as major holidays. Mayhem at Grant-Williams High covers Hell Week (exams) and Halloween; the upcoming Madness at Grant-Williams High advertised on the last page of the book will contain Be My Grant-Williams High Valentine and Generic Winter Holiday at Grant-Williams High. My first taste of Vera Nazarian was the decadent, Tanith Lee-like fantasy story 'Wound on the Moon,' published in Sword and Sorceress II and Nazarian's short story collection Salt of the Air, and I loved it. Vera Nazarian also wrote the really wonderful fantasy Lords of Rainbow, about a world with no colour. Mayhem at Grant-Williams High isn't as good as these works, but it's fun and it's funny.
