Grade 3-6?A look at Norman Rice, Mayor of Seattle, in his many roles and responsibilities. Sobol spotlights Rice delivering speeches, conducting meetings, visiting schools, chatting with people on the street, and reflecting on how he became involved in politics. The text is clearly written but not very well organized and tends to border on stream-of-consciousness as the author moves from one topic to the other without chapter breaks or topic indicators. The vocabulary is generally on-target for the intended audience, but the lack of a glossary is a hindrance. Full-color photographs greatly assist readers in following the text and are clear, interesting, and professional. This is a book that presents information about an interesting man in a little understood albeit highly visible profession.
