5.0 out of 5 stars The Best
Arguably, there is no better sight in this world than an ample slice of Maytag Blue Cheese in all of its glory, sitting next to a big glass of mysterious, yet sensuous, purple hued American Cabernet: ready and waiting for you to devour.
On top of that, this not-of-this-world Blue is also great when added to mashed potatoes or a Yukon Gold potato salad.

This stuff is addictive, fattening, rich, savory... yet praise the Lord...it has not one single Carb!

I am writing this as I sip some red wine and snack on Maytag blue. Nirvana. Maytag is the most excellent blue out there. I've had them all -- the danish, the stilton, all the other high- and low-priced blues out there. Maytag is the best. I'm not sure what that other dude was eating, but it wasn't Maytag. Maytag is the crumbliest and spiciest and most delectable. No way is it creamy or bland -- that's what I like about it, crumbly and spicy. I love it. If I bought this 5 pound wheel, I'd eat it in one setting. It's incredible.

This cheese is not produced in huge volumes as the cheesemakers want to keep the tradition of hand-made cheese and offer only best quality cheese to the customer. Maytag Blue has a crumbly texture and it reveals a very spicy flavor. The period of curing and maturing takes six months. Other cheeses from the production of Maytag Dairy Farm include White Cheddar and Edam. This cheese is used as a table cheese for dressings and salads'.

1.0 out of 5 stars Play-doh of cheese, February 17, 2005

Maytag blue, is not worth the exhorbitant rate which one is expected to pay for it. The cheese is far to creamy. The tang is far to weak. This cheese is described as salty, with a lemony aftertaste on Cheese.com, it is none of those things. My advise is to spend oh, maybe half the money and get Rosenborg or Denmark's finest (Both owned by Arla LLC,Gmbh,Ltd.) Danish blue, you'll be much happier, and you won't break the bank. I have heard some people complain about suffering migranes from stronger blues, and with this Maytag blue they do not suffer afterward, let me point out that that mean this cheese is not as strong as other blues, thus more cream, more fat, higher calories, and less of a blue, Purchase Danish Blue, or if you really do have money to burn, get Stilton or Roquefort; and let the american chemical miracle (NOT CHEESE) die a painless death.
