I have to run an additional "Rinse/Drain/Spin" cycle for nearly every load I wash, just so I can spin the clothes dry enough to put them into the dryer.

This Maytag Maxima 6000 series washing machine is one incredible piece of hardware. Our clothes have never been cleaner and more wrinkle free.

Our 12 year old Maytag Neptune stacked washer / dryer died an ugly death two weeks ago. The washing machine stopped spinning, it could have been a control board, or a wax motor; but no it turned out to be the bearings. Why did I stick with Maytag on the replacement? 12 years, two service visits, and a machine that worked flawlessly for a first generation stacker front loader. I was pleased with the service.

The key points about this machine - it is quiet (not dead silent, but it makes a good solid big heavy motor sounds), it has some sweet features, it looks cool, and it has a big wash drum. Until we got it home, I had no idea it washed clothes this well.

September 25, 2013 Update: The machine is now two years old and it works and looks as good as the first day it was installed. Yes I've had to clean out the soap dispenser several times - dark, damp areas, with fabric softener residue in them will grow mold - that is perfectly normal. Periodically I've had to clear away gunk in that lower seal - there are drain holes in that seal and if too much gunk builds up, it could plug. That's all the maintenance ever on this machine. It averages 2 loads of laundry a day. It is still super quiet, doesn't shake all over the place, and cleans clothes remarkably well.

There are two models in this Maytag Maxima line - the 6000 and the 7000 series. The 7000 adds a few cycles, the steam power wash, a separate dispenser for OXI clean products, and an LED light inside the drum. At first I was kind of disappointed I didn't buy the 7000, hey I'm a guy and I love extra functions and the light inside the drum just seems so darn cool.

We purchased this washer in June 2011. I was very excited about the large size and multiple cycle selections, since I do a lot of laundry for the six of us. At first I was disappointed at how long it took a heavy duty load to wash, 1 1/2-3 hours, but the clothes were clean and very dry.

After a few months the larger loads were not spinning out and would sit and agitate back and forth for three plus hours flashing "sensing".

I have had the service man here four times. They have replaced the sensing unit and the circuit board on the machine. It worked okay for a while, but is now back to the same problem. The service tech told me that there is a known problem with the computer on this model. So why not issue a recall?!

I want my old top-load back, no computer, just soap and water!

I just bought the set last month(check dryer review, not so good). The first load I washed took almost 2hrs because because the balance sensing could not sense a good enough balance. Since then it must have adjusted because I have not had the problem since. There is also some counter balance noise(loose rolling bearings?) that can be mistaken for something loose but it is normal.

My favorite features are the Allergen Removal Washer Cycle and the Sanitize. Used together they work great on my sheets and blankets. All my clothes have come out clean so far even though it looks like there is not enough water.

This machine was 5.0cu.ft. under the old classification but has been bumped down to a more reasonable 4.3cu.ft. in a new classification but don't be fooled, it holds allot! Easily washed my queen size comforter and then some.

I love the square door look!

Update 9/3/12:

I am on my 25th load now(single guy). The washer has a sensing/balance problem when washing things other than large blankets. With the machine trying to balance itself at every spin, it will add up to 1.5 hours to the wash time.

Machine only uses 1.5 gallons of extra water to wash clothes. How do I know, I measured the drained water several times. My clothes started smelling not so good even after running the clean cycle. Since the outer drum is plastic, it seems that the dirty water leaches in and stays in the plastic. I had to modify the washer to make it use more water which helped the cleaning. Other then that your just washing you clothes in concentrated dirty water.

Looks to me that the engineers underestimated what it takes to control a drum this big.

We bought this after our last washer of 20 years broke down on us.
I did a lot of research on washing machines because I did not want to spend all this money on something that I would end up hating or having to replace any time soon. It's odd that this particular machine gets bad reviews on Amazon. This washer is nearly 5 stars everywhere else I look with hundreds of reviews.

This washer does take longer to wash my clothes than my 20 year old machine did. I guess I expected that, as I am using approx. 10 gallons in lieu of the 50-60 gallons I used to use. That's considerable! I went from a 40 minute wash cycle to almost an hour. That's not a deal breaker for me, as there is a short cycle if I was in a hurry for my clothes. Besides, they clothes get spun so dry in the spin cycle that they're barely damp when they come out of the wash saving a SIGNIFICANT amount of drying time. From wash to dry, I spend less time with this than I did with the older top loader, even though the wash cycles are a bit longer.

This machine does a fantastic job of washing clothes. My clothes that used to come out dingy come out remarkably clean now. And like I previously mentioned, they get spun so dry the dryer barely takes any time at all. You only need about 2 TB of soap with the washer too, so you will save a lot of money on detergent.

This washer comes with a pull-out dispenser for your soap (powder or liquid), liquid fabric softener and bleach. It's so convenient. I also really like and really use all of the different settings. I like that if I have a load of towels, I can set it to towels and not have to think about anything else. The washer also automatically senses how big your load is, so no more guessing as to whether it's a small or medium load.
