    2.0 out of 5 stars Excellent @ 3 Months, Not @ 14 Months. April 10, 2013
    By Bruce
Obviously the 1 and 2 year reviews are more important, but at 3 months it's going strong and we like this dishwasher. (Added 14 mo update below.) We got this appliance through a mix-up; we'd ordered the MDB7749SAM, which arrived with a bent hinge. We returned it and were informed the MDB7749SAM was no longer available (as of Feb 2013) so the newer MDB7749SBM was substituted.

Installed it myself, was straightforward, no leaks (after a month of checking), good instructions on how to install. All hookups were reasonably easy to reach toward the front of the machine. The insulation around the machine is voluminous! Especially behind the apron. Which makes for an exceedingly quiet machine. Cleaning power is impressive. The instructions "persuaded" us to start using a liquid rinse product. The combination of the new powerful machine with the liquid rinse product means we're seeing the cleanest dishes and glasses we've ever had...by a large margin. So far this dishwasher vies with my refrigerator as "favorite appliance."

Criticisms? The insulation makes for a tight fit. I actually duct-taped the insulation down in a few places, previous to installation, so that I could get the dishwasher in place without the insulation "bunching" and tearing upon install. Also to start the machine, you "double tap." First tap wakes it up, second tap starts it. If you just push the "start" button once it'll not start. That caught me off guard at first. The feedback lights are very small so you need to look carefully that you've successfully started the machine...especially since you probably won't be hearing much of anything. Is it fair to criticize the long wash cycle? Probably not, as that is the new standard for low-water-use appliances.

2.0 out of 5 stars Replaced older Maytag August 19, 2013
The racks in this new model are terrible compared to the one we replaced. The silverware rack is very good but both the upper and lower racks for dishes have all straight wires and do not hold dishes, pasta bowls, or things other than flat plates. Rack for glasses is okay. Would not buy again however due to the difficulty of loading cereal, soup, or pasta bowls.

Stainless steel interior nice but has no vents so inside of door and interior of machine remains wet even after drying cycle is complete. Dishes are dry. Comments apply to MDB7749SBM Stainless Interior model.

1.0 out of 5 stars Electrical Panel Failure - AGAIN September 24, 2013
We purchased our Maytag dishwasher in 2009. The electrical panel failed in 2010 and was replaced under an extended warranty plan. The panel has failed again and Maytag doesn't seem interested in finding out why or fixing the problem. Original purchase price was $883.00 and the extended warranty was $178.14. And all we've got to show for is a dishwasher that is four years old and does not work. Calls to Maytag customer service have been pointless since they are not interested in quality control or customer service.

    1.0 out of 5 stars Junk! December 24, 2013
For the second time in two years, now out of warranty, the control panel on this piece of trash has gone out. The repair bill will approach $500 and, because the part is backordered, we will have to wait for three weeks to get it repaired. Clearly, if the part is not available for almost three weeks backordered, we are not the only ones having this problem. The repairman told us that this is a common problem with this dishwasher.

What a joy - hand washing dishes for the next three weeks.

Beyond that, all of the racks are fixed and it is nearly impossible to adjust the dishes to optimized cleaning.

Stay clear of this thing. If you buy it, you will regret it.

For the first 5 months it was a good dishwasher....very quiet but took forever to run a cycle. When it broke(after only 5 months) it took customer service 1 week to get the repair person out then they authorized the panel replacement. The part is on backorder and does not plan to be back in stock until November 30th. Obviously they are having a lot of problems with this unit being they cannot keep the parts in stock. Anytime you talk with customer service they say that this is a "typical repair process". Seriously...I have been buying paper plates, cups etc for almost a monrh so far to try and get us through and they do not feel they should even help with these costs. I will NEVER buy a maytag product again because of their "customer service". I get things can break, but how they are handling this is ridiculous.
