I own this model, and a cheap plastic fan snapped after less than a year and a half of normal usage. The repair bill was half the cost of a new dryer (not covered by the one-year warranty), and Maytag's customer service was awful. Poor quality, poor workmanship and poor service. Steer clear.

1.0 out of 5 stars Repair after repair after repair..., June 5, 2011
This review is from: Maytag MDE2400AYW 24 High-Efficiency Compact Electric Dryer 3.7 Cu. Ft. Capacity
We owned this dryer and its washer companion for 5 years. The the dryer has had 4 service calls for various breakdowns and the washer, one repair. This last time the dryer stopped working is indeed, the very last time. It's now in the dump. The main control board went up, and we'd rather just get a new one with a warranty since I can almost guarantee there will be future service calls. Because we have an odd/small space for washer/dryer units to fit into, we are sort of forced to get the same model, and I'm absolutely dreading it. DO NO buy this if you have a choice. From everything I've read and experienced, you will regret it. I kind of wish we would've taken the thing out to a field and gone all "Office Space" on it before we trashed it. Good riddance, you piece of junk.

2.0 out of 5 stars Cheap Product, March 16, 2011

We have this dryer in our condo and when we moved in it was four years old and had barely been used. It would take 3+ hours to dry a load [24 mins left on the timer usually meant it would take an hour], but we usually just gave up and took the stuff out after an hour. A few weeks later, it started making screeching noises we could hear down the hallway. The replacement parts and manhours were more than the cost of the dryer, so it finally got replaced... and what do you know? The BRAND NEW dryer has already started doing the same things. Good job, Maytag.

Pros: It sings a cool song when it finally finishes drying your things!
Cons: It's an expensive lint-making space-waster.

1.0 out of 5 stars 15 months old, $240 repair, February 8, 2008

the plastic blower broke on mine as well. I do maybe 2 loads a week and it didn't even last a year and a half. Insult to injury, the part is usually back-ordered. Maytag pays for parts for the second year, if it fails the third year just buy a new one because with parts its a $500 repair!

3.0 out of 5 stars Takes a lickin' and keeps in tickin'...kind of, January 2, 2011
This review is from: Maytag MDE2400AYW 24 High-Efficiency Compact Electric Dryer 3.7 Cu. Ft. Capacity
I have owned this dryer for 6 years and (knock on wood) have only had to have one repair on it. 2 years into owning it the heat element went out on it. It wasn't too expensive of a replacement but as some of the other reviews have mentioned, the parts are usually back ordered so it took almost a month before it would get fixed.

PROS:
*It's a small/ stackable optioned dryer so it fits into small spaces.
* It had many different settings for your clothes and you can adjust the heat and dryness.
* It claims to be able to tell when clothes are dry and bases the time it takes to dry them on that sensor.
* Easy access to the lint drawer.

CONS:
* Doesn't dry large loads in the time it says it does. I often have to set it twice.
* Heating element went out after only 2 years worth of use.
* Small so you can't do too large of loads.

This is a nice dryer for a very small family or single person. If you have a family of 4 or more this won't work for you.
