The Maytag MMV5208WS is a fantastic over the range microwave. We've had it for three weeks now, and absolutely love it! We replaced an older countertop microwave that was decent, but took up too much counter space, and frequently tripped the fuse (requiring a trip to the basement). This Maytag was easy to install (replacing a standard range hood). It has not yet, even one time, tripped the electric fuse to our kitchen - so that problem is solved. Plus, it has freed up a tremendous amount of counter space. It's like having a brand new kitchen!

The microwave itself works fantastic. It has setting for just about everything you can imagine. It can sense the food in the microwave to determine the best cooking time and settings. The baked potatoes turn out perfect...as does the popcorn. The turntable doesn't turn at all, but kind of moves around the bottom of the cooking space - novel, but it works, preventing hot spots from burning any particular point of the food. Highly recommended!

We replaced a previous maytag over-the range microwave with this one. After a month of using it we think it is easily the worst one we have owned over the last 25 years. It has slightly less power--1100 watts compared to 1150 watts in the last one. It cooks MUCH slower. Heating a slice of cooked, frozen bacon took 10 sec in the old one and 30 seconds in this one. The fan is very loud covering up conversation unless you go to a different room. It does look nice but if you are buying a microwave to heat/cook I would not recommend this appliance.

If you had an older version of this microwave you might be disappointed in this one depending upon how much you used certain features. It is a nice looking and powerful microwave with lots of pre-programmed options. I haven't tried any of them as I mostly use the microwave to re-heat things and am used to just using the timer.

Pros
1. I like the new glass tray. It moves back and forth and side to side, instead of just in a circle. Plus it is bigger.

2. I like that the fan blows out the top so there are no vents in the front. They were impossible to keep clean so that's no longer a worry.

3. It is relatively easy to install but warning, you will have to use the new mounting bracket as the old one doesn't work. (It comes with it.)

4. The light under the microwave is nice and bright making it useful for when you need to see your stove top better.

5. We were able to order it in Bisque so it matched our other appliances. It also comes in stainless, white and black, I believe.

Cons:
1. We had to drill a new hole in our upper cabinet because the power cord comes out of the right side instead of the left. Really? It couldn't have been designed to be more consistent with older models?

2. I use the timer on the microwave A LOT. This timer goes off after the prescribed time and then keeps going off at intervals until you hit cancel. This is very annoying because I am not always right there to cancel it. This is my #1 HATED feature which did not happen on my old one.

3. The fan that blows while the microwave is operating is VERY loud. It is louder than any microwave I have ever heard. I have to turn the TV way up if I am using the microwave with the TV on. So while it is nice to have the air come out of the top, it is very annoyingly noisy.

4. The digital clock is orange instead of green. It is almost impossible to see from across the room and is very dim. So, if your kitchen is bright, you likely won't be able to see the digital clock/timer unless you are close to it. I miss my old clock as I used it a lot too, plus you can't see the timer count down from across the room.

5. It is vertically bigger. Some may consider this to be an advantage but really how much vertical space do you need in a microwave? It isn't like you are cooking a turkey in it. It now comes down so close to my stove that a couple of my spices that I keep on the stove (like the garlic salt) just barely fit and it is harder to see my back burners.

microwave worked great for a year, lucky i bought the 1yr extended warranty. after having the parts replaced twice the warranty ran out. even though they replaced the part under warranty the same part broke and i was left holding the bag.
Icontacted maytag and have a email reply that i kept from the company . in short it said we only make our products to last a few years . word for word
would never buy anything they made
ps. have a maytag dishwasher I have owned for 2 years it dosent work anymore either
