The Maytag MMV6180WS microwave is an excellent above range unit. It's a quality microwave that has a nice design. The outside of the unit has a slight industrial/sleek look to it. Cooking power is even and much, much better than other units I've used.

First let me say that this Maytag microwave is fairly heavy. You'll need help with getting it put on the wall. However, installation was very quick and simple. A paper and cardboard template are provided to place the hanging bar and appropriate screws/holes. You use a template on your upper cabinet to cut holes for the power cord and two bolts. Another template is used on the wall to properly place the bar that will support the microwave. The template will also help you decide where to cut for external venting if you choose. You can have the vent circulate the air inside or vent to the outside. I chose to vent it out of the house. Remember when installing to measure twice and make sure you have everything lined up before drilling. Also, I decided to add a few extra screws into the wall (I think three were provided), but that was just my preference.

Operation is fairly quiet. I found microwave cooking to be very even. At 1100 watts it has a good amount of power. Honestly, I found that it kept in more moisture in most foods than my previous microwave. For some foods (like a baked potato) it autosenses moisture content and adjusts cooking time on its own and it was usually accurate. The convection oven is also nice and allows you to cook additional foods when preparing large meals or prepare smaller oven type food for a simple one or two person meal.

Other features include an adjustable overhead light, variable fan speeds (5 speeds), and a really nice touch control system.

Microwave door latch broke on first use. The cheap plastic door latch came off - flawed design, in my opinion.

Got this microwave 2 years ago and it takes three times longer than regular microwaves to heat food. A plate of leftovers takes 7 minutes at least. We kept it mostly for the over-stove light, which just burned out. I tried to take the old one out to replace it, and the bulb came apart, and now I can't get the remaining piece out. The whole thing is a mess!

Before you buy a maytag microwave you might want to watch this 3 minute youtube clip. I had a really bad experience with them selling what an honest appliance repairman called "dangerous".

Skip to the last 30 seconds or so if you just want his overall assessment of what the factory ships and don't have 3 minutes.

I purchased a Maytag MMV4205BAB micro/hood, and the extended warranty. The prone to failure magnatron failed, the Maytag extended warranty allowed them to not fix it, but to cash me out for 45% of the purchase price. I must now come up with extra money to buy a replacement. Guess what brand I will not buy. I am also out the $74 for the extended warranty, leaving me with $66 towards a replacement. But I looked at the reviews on Amazon for a comparable product, and I will buy nothing!! I am buying a range hood only, and a counter micro, which can be had for around $100, with a warranty for 1 year. So my choices are, nothing, or $100 per year. Read the reviews on appliances these days, and you will feel the same.
