Please DO NOT BUY THIS,
This review is from: Maytag Performance Series MHWE200XW 27 4 cu. Ft. Front-Load Washer - White
I purchased the 2000 series 3 months ago. At first, it was great. Then at the 3 month mark, it started to tear up my loads. No water, and as a result, the loads dry spin, tearing them up. If you have time to sit and babysit your loads, then buy this machine. I have lost approx. $150 worth of garments due to this machine. After weeks of diligent research, I chose Maytag as the most reputable. Now I am left with a machine that will destroy loads l. $600 for nothing! I will never buy another item from Maytag!

This review is from: Maytag Performance Series MHWE200XW 27 4 cu. Ft. Front-Load Washer - White
With limited available space for machines, my options were narrowed down between this set and one of those attached, stacked 'laundry center' units. Both take up the same amount of space...several inches less than traditional sets.
This combo cost me about $220 more than the stacked laundry center and I'd pay that again in a skinny minute. The washer gets my clothes very clean and does so with a slew of handy features that I actually use. Front loaders take longer than top loading machines in general...in some cases significanty so...the power wash cycle (which I have yet to use) takes 3 hours...yep, 3 hours. The whites cycle (use it all the time) requires two hours. If you use high efficiency powder you can take advantage of the delayed start option. I set the washer to kick off two hours before I get home from work, and add the fresh spin option in case I'm running late - this feature throws the clothes around intermittently for up to 6 hours aerating them to keep mildew from forming. It should be said that the normal wash is just under an hour. Not bad I'd say. If I have any complaint at all, it's the sound dampening on the washer...it's lacking. Wash cycles are nice and quiet. The spin cycle on the other hand can be deafening. This washer has a max extract feature, which is marketing speak for its top speed spin level....it's blisteringly fast and wrings your clothes to a very satisfying level that results in much abbreviated drying time. The gotcha is that it while it's doing this, you and your pets will want to hide under the bed. You do have the option to not end your rinse cycles with the steriod spin. Also, the set is positioned in a nook towards the back of my house but this area is only sheilded by a short retainer wall to the side of the machines, no doors, and not in a separate laundry room...so your experience may be different. All said and done, both the washer and dryer are superb performers.

Great front-loading washer/dryer pair, sized right for our space!,

This review is from: Maytag Performance Series MHWE200XW 27 4 cu. Ft. Front-Load Washer - White
Bought this front-loading washer as a pair with the Maytag MEDE200XW dryer for our newly constructed basement laundry room (replacing 17-year-old Maytags that were working fine and readily found a new home).
In addition to updating our old units to modern, energy-efficient front-loaders, we selected this pair for (a) their stack-ability, a must to fit our small room, (b) their overall stacked height of 72" - the only pair we found that would meet our height clearances (most others were 78-79"), and (c) the dryer side-venting option, another must do to our no-rear-clearance situation. This pair also turned out to be the cheapest in this category, and the washer had several good reviews, despite being a new model, and despite reading about Maytag quality taking a downturn a few years back. (The brand is now owned by Whirlpool and quality & reliability seem to be back up to par with Whirlpool appliances). See my review of the MEDE200XW on the DIY project to redirect the exhaust to the left side vent (found no instructions about what parts were needed or how to install available anywhere -- installation guide, the web, or even Maytag Customer Service, but accomplished it in a couple of hours with $10 of duct parts from HD and basic homeowner tools). HD delivery did the installation, including the wiring, hoses, leveling and stacking (you can do this yourself but this way if there are any post-install operating problems HD will take responsibility to make it right). Both appliances are now installed and working! The washer is very quiet during the wash cycle, quiet enough during hi-speed spin, very stable (no "walking") and low vibration, just as advertized. The wash cycles we've tried are turning out very clean clothes. The dryer is similarly quiet, nearly vibration-free, very stable atop the washer, venting to the side nicely, and is drying clothes just great. (I leave the subtleties on laundry operation to my wife, but she seems quite happy with the pair). Overall so far: 5 stars; am not discounting for the lack of dryer side-vent instructions.
