As another reviewer noted, these curtains do not hang gracefully nor are they wide enough. However, they are what they say they are -- definitely (stiff) velvet and they do block-out almost all of the light. You may consider ordering one or two extra panels to make up for their narrowness.

These truly are blackout curtains. No light will come through these. They are velvet, but a bit stiff and don't hang gracefully. Not a deal breaker though. I wish they were just a bit wider too.

DO NOT WASH!,
By Mommy in Maine (Maine) - See all my reviews

We purchased these curtains to help with heating costs. Like anything else, when it comes home I wash it. When I washed these they fell apart. Even following the directions printed on the label. The backing flaked off and left a residue all over the fabric. They do work well for insulating, but the dust created every time we open and close is almost not worth it.

I bought this for my bedroom. As someone stated, DON'T WASH THEM. They say dry clean only and they mean it. They're a wonderful curtains and seeing as I sleep just about all day, they keep the light locked out (I have to have a small light with me when going to bed so I don't run into anything)and no one will be able to peep into your windows. Downside is that they are heavy, stiff, and do dirty easily. But I found that if I just take a small wash cloth that has a few drops of water they stay well clean. I'd say a must have. Good deal too.

I was fooled by the picture,

It's my own fault. I thought there would be two panels but there is only one. If I had felt the way it feels (and known it was only one panel) I probably wouldn't have spent the money that I did on it.
We'll see what happens in the winter I suppose!

the curtain definitely doesn't look like it does in the picture. it is a red, velvety texture and is pretty stiff, so has a number of creases from how it was folded in the box. it does the job in terms of blocking out light, but the appearance is pretty low quality (hence the price i guess)

First of all, you should know that when buying this, you need to purchase TWICE, because one order is just one panel. I only found this out by reading the reviews.
So far it's been pretty good at keeping most of the heat out (or the cold, when it was still cold outside). However, with the light shining on it, you can see tiny little holes throughout the fabric. Like someone poked a tiny needle in certain parts. It's not a problem, and barely noticeable, but it's not attractive either. They also don't feel great. They feel almost like rough rubber. Not that you buy them to snuggle with. Overall, I've seen better, but it's an alright deal if you're looking for keeping the temperature and most of the light out.

I love the color of these, they are a deep red like wine. They do pick up lint very easily as with any velvet, but they are definitely NOT Blackout curtains. I took a photo of them and also have cloth blinds fully closed behind them and the room is still bright. I don't understand how they can claim they block any more light than regular curtains. I'm happy with the color, just not what I bought them for.

These are very nice curtains. You will need a sturdy rod for 3 panels or more. The color is the same as the picture, they are lined and block out light well - which is great for TV viewing. The only draw back is that I could only purchase 3 panels no more.

I bought two. They are small in width so you will need two per window. I bought one per window and put white sheer panels on each side of the black velvet panel. They are long and beautiful and block out the light. I would buy from this seller again. Product arrived fast. I have no complaints. Price was great too.
