5.0 out of 5 stars A great book for an NA & NB Miata owner
The author, Keith Tanner, is a legitimate Miata expert. This book contains Miata history, buying tips, maintenance advise, and upgrades. It does not cover the NC (2006+) Miata.
The book is well written and easy to read and understand. A must have for the Miata owner.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mazda MX-5 Miata: Find It. Fix It. Trick It.
If you're a Miata-phile you'll buy this book anyway. It's well put together (minus 1 or two editing/layout misttakes) Excellent large format photographs. Mr. Tanner does and excellent job of detailing the significance and diffences between the various years and editions of the World's best sellig sports car, The Miata. If you're looking to purchase a used Miata...

If you're looking to purchase a used Miata 1989-2002 this is a great resource. Mr. Tanner tells you what models are most sought after and what problems and Miatas to stay away from.
The one thing I was looking forward to in this book was more projects. While there are some maintenance and repair projects detailed in this book don't expect the details and projects from Mr. Tanner's last publication "Mazda Miata MX-5 Performance Projects". To be fair, there was no reason for Mr. Tanner to rehash projects from his last publication. This new publication is much more about the spirit and fun of a Miata, it's full of humorous and interesting anectdotes from Miatphiles around the World.

Makes an excellent companion for Mr. Tanner's "Mazda Miata MX-5 Performance Projects" and the perfect addition to your Miata canon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kieth Tanner's New Book: Find, Fix, & Trick It, MX-5 Miata, August 5, 2007
This review is from: Mazda MX-5 Miata: Find It. Fix It. Trick It. (Motorbooks Workshop) (Paperback)
Mr. Tanner has excellent writing skills as well as mechanical knowledge. His new book is well written, easy to read and understand, and goes beyond the "How to Books" into an interesting, well illustrated, and comprehensive narrative that gives the reader confidence to perform do-it-yourself (DIY) repaires. His use of illustrations to simplify difficult subject matter is second to no one. The name "Keith Tanner" is synonymous with Mazda, MX-5 Miada modifications and improvements. His latest book is a "must read" for all Mazda Miata Enthusiasts.

Great book, that does a nice job going over the Miata History, Buying Tips, and then covering some basic maintenance tip and tricks.

A must buy if you are new to Miata's and especially if you are considering purchasing a pre-owned NA or NB (1st or 2nd Generation) model.

If you are considering a 2006 or newer model year, it does not cover this NC (3rd Generation) model and is not a book for you.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just OK. A little short on data. Best for someone new to Miatas, December 5, 2007
This review is from: Mazda MX-5 Miata: Find It. Fix It. Trick It. (Motorbooks Workshop) (Paperback)
I already knew 80 percent of what Tanner's book covers from hanging around on sports car discussion forums. It's got good information, but very basic, and a bit heavy on "lifestyle" (OK let's all fawn over what a great car the Miata is.) On the plus side, Tanner knows his stuff. The book reads easily and is has great pictures.

Perhaps the book should be renamed Miata: "Find it, fawn over it, fool around with it" because there's precious little real repair or high performance information there.

Great book by Keith Tanner of Flying Miata. These people know and love the Miatas so the book is very informative. Get all 3 of his books on the Miata and learn a great deal on the history of the car, a little theory on how to set it up for competition and some discussion of different performance set ups.

Excellent Miata tool for many of the projects that a non-wrench would like to attempt. As a long time owner of a miata it has frustrated me that I don't do more of the basic maintainance on my little car. This book as provided the foundation for me to perform repairs I never thought I'd be able to. In the two weeks I've had it I've replaced the Crank Angle Sensor (CAS) gasket and put aftermarket sway bars on my car.
I highly recommend this book to any enthusiast regardless of mechanical skill level. If anything, it will better inform you what to expect/look for after you take your car to your own mechanic.
Tanner provides clear instructions with great pictures.

Yes, I expected more from Keith Tanner. Silly me. I thought there might be some information on fixing and "tricking" Miatas. Instead there are countless examples of cars that are tricked out but precious little information on processes that are suggested in the the title. The assumed wording "how to" should not assumed here except in the case of finding a Miata to do all of these things to. If you're in need of how to find one, what to look for and how to evaluate a possible purchase candidate, then this book may be for you. On the other hand, if you already have your Miata, save your money for Mr. Tanner's other title, "MX5 Performance Projects". There is lots of detailed "how to" in the Projects book.

I totally enjoyed this book. It has plenty of pictures to complement the text. It answered a lot of questions about the Miata I just bought.
