A little too much synthesizer,
By A Customer
This review is from: Maze (Audio CD)
This was my first venture into Native American music and I like it a lot. I found the story woven through the music fun and beautiful. However, it is a little heavy on the synthesizers, making it more "New Age" than native. The vocals are beautiful and the melodies contagious. I'll hum them for hours after I turn the music off. If you are looking for flute music or more traditional music, try Mary Youngblood, Alice Gomez or John Winterhawk. Instead, this is an interesting and wonderful blending of indigenous and new age sound, very much worth a listen.

Luxurious blend of Flute and Keyboards,
By Rob Wallace (Grand Junction, Colorado USA) - See all my reviews

I found that the samplers and synthesizers greatly added to the purpose of this project. So did the producer. Pure traditional cedar wood flute music is certainly available, R.Carlos Nakai being among the best, but even he will record with quartets, symphonies, Paul Horn and other scenarios. Native American New Age music is a new genre and has won distinctive critical acclaim and awards.

Fantastic working music,
By Elizabeth A Triano "lizziewriter" (In Transition, NY (watch this space)) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE)

I love this album... the blend of synth and natural is excellent, a difficult achievement (and a subjective call, I'll admit). R. Carlos Nakai is a bit too "quiet" for me most of the time, and this reminds me more of jazz in terms of its motion and fluidity. Excellent background music for when I want to do creative work and don't want the intrusion of lyrics or the like. Highly recommended.
