5.0 out of 5 stars change, November 17, 2011

This review is from: The Mbuti Pygmies: Adaptation & Change in Ituri Forest (Case Studies in Cultural Anthropology) (Paperback)
Ben Franklin said the only sure things were death and taxes. I think he should have added change. Turnbull's book is a very good treatise on how the Mbuti pygmies in the Ituri rain forest adapted to the changes brought about by colonialism, civil war, climate change, and independence; and how that adaptation might give us an insight as to how the western world could adjust to change. I did not necessarily agree with all his conclusions, he has his prejudices, as do we all, but the book gave much to ponder.
