Verified Purchase
After installation and all of its set-up actions, my computer was slowed dramatically. Many things just would almost not even work. It found no problems, even tough I had no other such program on the computer. I called the number suggested for help (not McAfee), and that person did some testing and claimed that I had over 70 errors in the system. His only suggetion was that I take it to a company and pay $299 and more to get it corrected. I could not get any help from McAfee itself. So I removed the program and restored my computer to the oldest date available. It has returned to nearly normal speed. Something seems very wrong with this protection software, yet the company has no concern nor help.

I canceled auto renewal of McAfee in 2009 and received an email from them confirming the cancellation of the auto renewal. For 4 more years they continued to charge us- a total of $179.96. We did not notice the charge because it is a once a year charge card we use only at Christmastime- right when the McAfee charge is made annually.

After speaking with them numerous times they were unwilling to take responsibility for their mistake and would not refund the charges.

We use Norton, we are happy and have never had ANY issues. I would never use McAfee based on the poor customer service.

I am an expert in IT, I have been involved in the architecture and deployment of large complex web infrastructure for 15 years. I am proficient in Linux, Solaris, Windows, I can write code in perl, java, ruby, and javascript. I was checkpoint firewall certified, which took days of training. Despite all my expertise I could not figure out how to enable remote assistance between two laptops sitting side by side. The solution? Uninstall McAfee!

This thing is like a virus itself. First i tried to disable the firewall, it appeared to do nothing. Then I tried to register the "subscription" which alolowed me to disable the firewall. When I did remote assistant couldn't seem to use the network. Then I went into the windows control panel to try to enable and configure the built in and easy to use windows firewall, but the option to do so was removed. Next I tried to re-enable the firewall and explicitly enable the ports via the instruction in the McAfee forum. This did not work for 3389 the default RDP port for Remote Assistance. I could connect via remote assistance to help the other laptop, but not back the other way. You wouldn't even know this Anti Virus software had a firewall unless you had experienced this "take your PC hostage" approach to software before. Searching in the program search for firewall gives you no indication McAfee is enabled for this function.

This laptop is for my wife's father who can barely use a computer. I just wasted an hour of my life trying to use functionality that is built into windows, and the only solution I found without wasting any more of my life was to uninstall the software that is supposed to protect my father in law. Have you ever tried to troubleshoot something like this over the phone with someone who can barely use a mouse? Thank god I tried this before we gave the laptop to her father, i would have lost my mind dealing with him via the phone.

They Charge your Card again and again. Beware of this Company (MCAFEE). I have had continuous charges without my approval. I used their services over a year ago and have had 2 attempts to charge my card without my approval. Please do not use them. My credit card has expressed that other customers have had the same problem

Wow!!! I am surprised McAfee calls itself a software company. I had the misfortune of installing this software on my Win 7 Pro PC. The first thing I noticed that my PC became super sluggish after installing it. Checked the system resources and lo-behold my CPU was clocking 100% usage non-stop. The McAfee real-time scanning executable was siphoning away CPU cycles from all my other programs and made the entire PC slow. Worst, it the constant 100% CPU cycle was running my CPU at 91 Degree Celsius!!!!

It almost burnt my laptop. And what did I get in return? My PC still got infected. I had to use Malwarebytes 2013 Anti-Malware Pro Lifetime to get rid of the Trojan. Even though I had paid for the subscription, losing a 20 dollar subscription was much better than losing a 2000 dollar laptop.

So out went McAfee and in came Avast, a free anti-virus coupled with Malwarebytes has kept my PC virus free for an year now. Unless McAfee improves this POS software, do not buy unless you want a sluggish PC which runs super hot and does not even provide protection.

This software came with my computer; a 30-day free-trial. Halfway into my trial, the pop-ups began, minimizing my games or work and crashing programs in order to urge me to buy its software on a permanent basis. At first, I thought it was temporary or it would pass within the day. When it happened the next day every few hours, I tried to find a way to shut it up-- only to learn that it's a feature and not a bug. You cannot stop it from pouring ads down your throat, crashing or minimizing your activities and forcing you to notice it. Active subscription or not, it's GONE now!

On top of that, it did NOT protect me from the longfintuna ad virus, among others, which I had to personally clean off my computer using other programs.
