Here's your opportunity to cripple 3 computers,
This review is from: McAfee Internet Security Suite 2007 - 3 Users (CD-ROM)
Terrible software - much worse than previous McAfee editions.
I dropped Norton on some older desktops due to its lack of support for W2000. I then went to the free edition of AVG anti-virus, which was OK but slowed things down. Thinking "you get what you pay for" I sprung for McAfee which has been OK in the past. I installed one of the other licenses on my wife's laptop (luckily, she's still talking to me). The 2007 McAfee Suite makes AVG look like a free Ferrari. Absolutely terrible performance, coupled with a mediocre interface. Perhaps the only poorer-performing way to assure you'll never get a virus, spam, etc. would be to hit your motherboard with a hammer. This will slow down your computer (even worse, unpredictably). If you have lots of email in Outlook or Outlook Express expect to open your mail box, then have a long break before you can do a thing (as it rechecks everything for spam). There's a partial workaround for this, but users shouldn't have to search for workarounds. Every Web action now has noticeable latency. If you liked your current anti-spam -- too bad -- McAfee may not let you keep it. McAfee (like Norton) is also difficult to remove from your system. What prompted this review? Today it appears the update process rebooted my computer without requiring a "yes" from me. If McAfee doesn't come up with a much improved update within a month or two, they should kiss their reputation and business goodbye. As for alternatives, I wasn't able to get Kaspersky anti-virus to run on an older machine -- somewhare a remnant of Norton persisted (possibly a document tagged Symantec etc. left over from a day of working with them ages ago). However, I did get it running on a laptop and its better than Norton-McAfee-and even AVG in my opinion. So, consider Kaspersky or another vendor. If that doesn't work try AVG.

Bundle of Problems,

This review is from: McAfee Internet Security Suite 2007 - 3 Users (CD-ROM)
I've used Mcafee for years and generally, never had any problems. It's not as invasive as Norton, which will seep into every nook and cranny of your system making it impossible to delete and/or manage.
Unfortunately though, this multi user versoin of Mcafee is a nightmare. I installed it on 2 different computers, both running Windows XP, and had to systems restore both. On computer startup, I got at least a half dozen errors ranging from problems with Google desktop to mysteriously missing.dll files. I'd suggest that you wait a few months for another iteration and save yourself a lot of problems.

Crashed Vista - don't touch it with a barge pole!!!,
This review is from: McAfee Internet Security Suite 2007 - 3 Users (CD-ROM)
Have been with either McAfee or Symantic/Norton for probably 15 years or more. Overall I have had more problems with McAfee, but have had most of them resolved via their IM support (Real person? Get real!!)- it can take a couple of hours as the response times can be incredibly s-l-o-w, but we did get there eventually.
I bought a new PC a couple of months ago which came with a 90 day trial for Symantic, and it expired yesterday. I had an unused copy of McAfee which I had purchased just before my old PC expired, causing me to buy the new one, so I thought that I would install that and save me a trip down the shops and me spending more of my hard earned money. Once the install started it did warn me that there were known incompatibility issues with Vista, so part of it is my own fault I suppose, but I have seen that warning before with installing other software and had experienced no major problems. Anyway, once it had completed installation and I double clicked on the desktop icon, the system crashed and started to shut down - it stalled at this point and the hard drive was running continuously. After 5 minutes I got bored and turned the PC off, counted to 10 and then restarted it. All looked well, until I tried to sign in, when explorer.exe crashed and none of the buttons/icons on the user sign in screen did what they should. Could not get it to start, stop or restart and ended up having to turn the power off. Tried a couple of more times to see if the problems would resolve themselves, but they didn't and so resorted to a system restore - thank goodness for system restore is all I can say!!! The result is that i will be going back to Symantic as I know that works with my PC
