I bought this product to update my 2008 McAfee security center. Installation went flawlessly and then I was prompted to register the product. The registration program rightfully detected I already have an account and updated my account information. I was thrilled.
Then suddenly the McAfee Security Center prompts me to renew my licence, telling me my subscription has expired... Called customer service. They told me I MUST un-install my previous McAfee Security Center using a special exe file I need to download from their web site(???). Needless to say the McAfee installation program never asked me to un-install anything... So now I have to remove all McAfee programs from my computer, download a special exe file and run it to clean their own mess, just to re-install all again. Now when you do so, you loose all previously installed McAfee applications (like backup/restore in my case) which you have legally purchased before. They will not be reinstalled with the new bundle.
Searched the box and the web site for warnings about this infuriating update process, no mention anywhere.
Bottom line - Stay away from this product.

I Installed this product in three of my PCs. Two of them got infected with trojans. The McAfee Viruscan Plus 2009 didn't stop the infections to occur and it is not even capable to detect them when I run a scan of my infected computers. The only option McAfee offers to clean my PCs cost extra money, about $90, so I think this product is worthless.
I had to download a FREE shareware from the internet to clean the infections.

I recently bought a new Dell desktop which came with a 30 day trial of McAfee VirusScan 2009. After I installed the trial version (good for 30 days) it crashed my computer. I had to get help from a level 3 technician from Dell which cost me $135.00 to help me rebuild and restore my computer. I have other versions of McAfee on my old desktop and they drove me nuts with popups, and annoying messages. My advice is to stay away form this program unless it comes with a can of Raid to destroy all the bugs.

Did not install properly. Despite the instructions advising that it is ok to install over previous versions, I had to uninstall before the latest version would work.

WARNING -- McAfee VirusScan does not work with Internet Explorer 8. I bounght this product and found the product would not work on my computer. McAfee customer support did not help with the problem. After doing independant researh I discovered VirusScan was incompatible with the Imternet Explorer8 which was running on my Vista operating system. After I uninstalled IE 8 and reinstalled IE 7 on my computer everyting worked fine. This was a process that requires a medium level of computer knowledge. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT UNTIL MCAFEE FIXES IT TO WORK WITH IE 8.

I owned this piece of crap several years ago. It worked fine, till I actually got a virus. McAfee Anti-Virus wouldn't remove the virus. Tech support said they could do it over the phone, for $[...]. I uninstalled McAfee and bought Norton, which--get this--removed the virus.

Now I have a year old Dell which came it McAfee installed. Now I have another virus. And again, McAfee won't remove it. Their web site says, No, we don't remove that one. Turns out they know how to remove it, but they choose not to. To actually remove the virus, I have to buy a fancy expensive version. Silly me. I bought the kind of McAfee anti-virus software that doesn't actually remove viruses.

What a bunch of f@$*&ing cheats.

It seems like the virusscan is always performing some function behind the sceens and slows down the performance of my computer. I am thinking about switching back to Norton.

becareful this is just a viruscan not total protection this is just to be used as a virus scan not a firewall.

It is generally good. But the plugged in "website adviser" (if I remember the name) is not useful. Because it tagged many famous websites that I favorite as "dangerous". But are they really dangerous?

CD CAN NOT BE UPDATED! MCAFEE SAID IT IS OUTED DATED! NOT WORTH THE MONEY I SPENT FOR IT!
