5.0 out of 5 stars Oatmeal that actually tastes good
I don't know how Quaker and other US food processors can drain the flavor out of Oatmeal, yet McCann's can have so much flavor in theirs, with a firm, non-mushy texture, yet only be 130 calories per serving. The Fruit and Cream variety pack contains 4 peach (real peaches pieces - dehydrated of course) 2 blueberry, 2 strawberry and 2 banana. All the dehydrated fruit...

1.0 out of 5 stars Argh! Contains Hydrogenated Oils
I tried this product because my family loves McCann's traditional steel cut oats. I was looking for a quicker alternative that was also better tasting than the awful Quaker instant oatmeal. Unfortunately, it contains hydrogenated oils (as do some Quaker oats instant products).

Until McCannn's gets rid of the hydrogenated oils, I will not buy this product...

All the dehydrated fruit pieces plump up - and taste really good, with no chemical taste. This is my standard morning meal now for quite some time.

Until McCannn's gets rid of the hydrogenated oils, I will not buy this product again regardless of how it tastes. (I have since discovered Nature's Path instant oatmeals which do not contain hydrogenated and are quite tasty.)

This review is from: McCANN'S Instant Irish Oatmeal, Fruit & Cream, Variety Pack of Four Flavors, 10-Count Boxes (Pack of 6) (Grocery)
While McCann's is known as a very good oatmeal, in the world of instant, it's average or maybe even generic. A few days ago I was at my local Safeway and purchased a box of Safeway's brand regular instant. I was amazed to find when I opened the box at home that the packaging of each packet was identical to those sold by McCann's. I placed them side by side and compared them. My conclusion is that Safeway obviously buys from the same manufacture as McCann's. I don't know who makes it, but I do know that Safeway's pricing is substantially less than the special pricing I got from Amazon (including free shipping). I don't find any difference between them. For me I will not purchase this product again unless the price is comparable to other brands, including Safeway's.

Opened a package of cream peach oatmeal and 20+ live black bugs were in the package and began crawling over my hand and bowl. It was very distressing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Satisfying, April 10, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Bought this instead of the identical quaker oats oatmeal, and I enjoy it just as much if not more. It has more vitamins and not as many additives. Flavor was more real / fresh as well. If you want a sugary oatmeal, I highly recommend this. Personally, I normally prefer non-sugared yet still flavorful oatmeal. Highly recommend people trying out the natures path organic oatmeal - like 10 ingredients, with no refined sugars.

Even though I prefer non-sugary oatmeals, I rated this 5 stars, because it is what it is - and what it is is better than any comparable product (in my experience).

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfectly sweet, June 22, 2007
McCann's instant fruit & cream is my definition of the perfect oatmeal. The sweetness is just right, the texture is chewy and the fruit is so good it could be confused for fresh. If you're looking for the same nutty texture that you get with steel cut oatmeal, you're not going to find that with the fruit & cream variety. If I had to pick whether McCann's instant fruit & cream oatmeal is most similar to Quaker instant or McCann's steel cut, I would have to say it's more like Quaker instant, however McCann's is definitely superior.

My daughter - the oatmeal taster - loves this oatmeal. I like it because it is more hearty than others - more filling.

Bought some of this expecting something a little out of the ordinary for a quick breakfast at the office. Was surprised when I opened the box to find the same generic envelopes I've gotten in store brands before. No unique identifying marks on the envelopes at all to distinguish it from store brands. And inside those envelopes is essentially the same product as those store brands -- overly sweetened, artificially flavored instant oatmeal. Don't waste your money on this thinking you're getting something special. Just buy the cheapest store brand instant for the same experience. I add in some plain old-fashioned rolled oats to cut the sweetness and add some texture.
