4.0 out of 5 stars Runs well, happy so far.
The McCulloch 5700 has a well built frame and an included wheel kit (from Northern Tool). The engine is a near identical Chinese copy of the Honda 340 GX 11-hp engine and runs smoothly and fairly quiet. It is not as quiet as a true Honda but more so than a Briggs. Fuel economy seems to be good too. It starts with one or two pulls though I usually run it several times a...

3.0 out of 5 stars Do not buy! Discontinued unit. Parts not available.
For a Chinese manufactured generator, what can you expect I guess? It has worked ok for me. It usually starts on the first or second pull. It powers up like intended. However, ever since I bought it, this generator leaks gas from gas cap like crazy. Every time I attempt to move the generator around it leaks gas profusely out of the gas cap's two vent holes. When it...

The engine is a near identical Chinese copy of the Honda 340 GX 11-hp engine and runs smoothly and fairly quiet. It is not as quiet as a true Honda but more so than a Briggs. Fuel economy seems to be good too. It starts with one or two pulls though I usually run it several times a month. Workmanship seems to be good. Instructions are understandable but suffer from poor grammer. It carries only a one year warranty where most others have two. I'm not too worried about the engine as I am told that Honda parts are interchangeable. The generator part I'm not too sure about but so far after about 30 hours of operation with fairly heavy loads, there has been no problem. The price was right but I won't know if I had made the right decision until some years down the road. I still haven't checked the AC frequency or voltage under load but will do so the next I use it. I do wish it had automatic voltage regulation but that is only found on more expensive units. Anyway, at this point I feel I got a good deal and the unit has exceeded my expectations.

This review is from: McCulloch FG6000MK 5700-Watt 13 HP 338CC Portable Generator (Lawn & Patio)
I purchased this generator a couple of weeks ago. It was delivered 1 day early on 8/28/2008 three days before hurricane Gustov passed 60 miles to my west. Our power went down for 53 hours. This generator performed flawlessly for 53 hours of continuous use. I never shut it off. It powered my well, refrigerator, freezer,TV and really everything but my air conditioner. It is quite fuel efficient and moderately quiet. I would definately recommend it to anyone. This is a solid heavy duty unit and I am confident I made the right choice.

I just got mine today. Easy to put the wheels and handles on, in less than 15 minutes, had it up and running, STARTED ON FIRST PULL. The generator is reasonably quiet, compared to some I've heard. Powered hand tools just fine, all the switches and controls are convenient and well placed. A well built machine, manual says it has a brushless generator, which tends to be maintenance free. Tires are airless-NO FLATS. Engine is 11 HP, NOT 13 as it says on Amazons title, the weight is also around 200 pounds, not 147 as stated. THIS ENGINE DOES NOT HAVE A SPARK ARRESTOR. If that is important, installation of one shouldn't be too difficult. If the specifications fill the bill for you, do not hesitate, I like mine. FREE shipping was a big plus++++.

4.0 out of 5 stars McCulloch 5700 watt generator, June 15, 2007
This review is from: McCulloch FG6000MK 5700-Watt 13 HP 338CC Portable Generator (Lawn & Patio)
I purchased this model generator from Sam's Club at a sizeable discount in '05. It's been very reliable, although some what quirky. The flip down tote handles are too short for me (6'1). Also gas wants to spill out of the fill cap when the unit is lifted by the handles to move it, if the gas tank is near full. (The gas tank should be flipped in the frame IMHO). Also I think the on/off switch seems to be mounted intutativly upside down, which I corrected. In addition the soft rubber wheels really stick out board from the main generator frame and they tend to get caught on different items in my garage. Having said all that, I would still buy it again. It always starts on one pull, and provides plenty of power for different eguipment I run.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Value, September 18, 2008

Delivered on time, included oil, some assembly required. Bolts for handles are soft/low quality, so had to replace one that when overtightened, broke, with a hardened bolt. Other than that, this generator starts right up with no hesitation. Instructions funny--translated from Chinese. Missing info: You need to turn on the generator switch, in addition to opening the fuel line and choke to start. Otherwise, pull and pull and pull and nothing will happen. Provides wattage advertised. Check with multimeter since it does not have a meter on the unit. Got the generator before all the hurricanes, at a great price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Price - Lousy delivery, September 25, 2008
This review is from: McCulloch FG6000MK 5700-Watt 13 HP 338CC Portable Generator (Lawn & Patio)
Lots of problems with the delivery - ended up taking 3 weeks to get the product. Once I finally got it, it was great. Wheel kit was easy to install. Works well and I would recommend it to others.

3.0 out of 5 stars Do not buy! Discontinued unit. Parts not available., January 7, 2011

When it sets in the sun and the tank gets warm, it leaks like crazy from the gas cap. I can't even haul it in my truck without getting gasoline being spewed all over the place. I have read other reviews that stated the same problem with spewing gas, on top of electical issues with it failing to generate power. I contacted McCulloch Customer Service to seek a remedy. They said, "We're sorry Sir, but this unit has been discontinued". I asked if I could get a replacement gas cap. They said, "That part number shows that the item is no longer available". I asked for another remedy option. They said, "Sir, you can contact a McCulloch dealer in your area". FOR WHAT, I ask? If parts are no longer available to make repairs, then to me, it is JUNK! Unless a dealer has another JUNK unit to rob parts from, these generator's days are numbered. As for me, gas spewing onto a hot, running engine is a fire hazard and extremely dangerous. My recommendation is to put the money that you would have spent on this generator towards a company that is reputable and stands behind their products with customer service and service/parts support. McCulloch is not one of those companies. The 3 Stars that I give this unit is generous and is only because the motor runs and it makes electricity. This is a "throw away" generator. I'm pissed!
