I have mixed feelings,

This review is from: McCulloch MCC4516FK 16-Inch 4.5-Hoprsepower Electric Chain Saw with Case (Lawn & Patio)
I would give this saw 3.5 stars if I could. I gave it as a gift at Thanksgiving and cut up 2 trees the local power company took down that were close to the lines. The first was a 16" oak and the second was a 22" eucalyptus, both of which had been down for 6-7 weeks. My first agitation was with loading the chain lubricant. The port is on the side of the saw, and the cap has a small hole where a small but annoying amount of lube leaked down the side throughout the session even though it was on perfectly tight. It is better than the Poulan in that it pumps automatically and spares you the irritating thumb push and having to guess when it needs it. The other lube problem is there is a white bar that is supposed to let you see how much lube is left, except I really couldn't see anything so it was of no help.
This saw is powerful, and is not really the safest. When you release the trigger the blade continues to spin for a good 6-7 seconds. I would prefer to see an effective chain break that stops it on release. There is also inadequate thumb protection for the left hand and while the risk is small I could see an inexperienced saw operator filleting themselves on accident. Since most users of this tool are likely to be DIY yard people rather than woodsmen, a little increased safety would seem appropriate. Compared to my gas powered Stihl & Husqvarna, this saw feels like a plastic toy. Probably not a fair comparison, but next to my inlaws crappy Poulan this saw is a powerhouse. For backyard work and people not planning to cut anything bigger than 14" diameter, the saw will definitely exceed expectations. I first used it to make 10 cuts on the oak and it cut better than expected, but was certainly more effort than a gas powered saw. The euc was huge for the 16" bar. At first it cut like butter compared to the oak, once it got past the think bark (1.5") and into the dense wood. After a few cuts I am guessing the chain was starting to dull because it was taking more effort. I did not use it again after sharpening it, but it seemed to improve the edge. Again, compared to their Poulan which takes considerable effort, this saw cut easily. The other grievance, and I think this is true for just about any electric saw, is the cord where the plug attaches is just one really sorry design if you are expecting it to stay put while you work. You basically have to tie a knot with the extension cord in order to keep it in place. This is ridiculous. It came with a good plastic case, and overall for $100 it is a very good saw. If I were to buy another I think I would try the Makita (2.4 x's the price). Hope my review helps.

I was surprised after using this chainsaw. It started smoking after using it for 10 minutes to cut 3 inch branches. The motor caught fire. I will fix the switch on my 35yr old Craftsman. Seller did return my money and paid for shipping. It could have been just one bad one in the bunch.

I really thought this chainsaw would be less than adequate because it didn't have a gas engine but I was seriously wrong! This little toy is relentless on wood!! I actually had smoke coming out of the stump at one time but the chain was spinning and the motor was keeping up. I had a gas powered McCulloch for 24 years so I thought I'd stick with them and it's the best I've ever used. Four outstanding features are:
1) The "tool less" chain adjustment. 5 seconds is all it takes to adjust it with nothing more than one hand. Loosen the yellow finger knob, turn the outer gray sleeve and tighten the yellow finger knob and you're done!! 2) When you squeeze the trigger, the chain jumps up to speed and, when you release it, the chain stops immediately but then the motor slowly winds down to a stop. Great safety feature! 3) It is only about half as loud as a gas chainsaw. 4) It uses automatic chain oiling. No pumping by hand anymore. I will say that the chain sharpness only lasted about an hour but then I was cutting up a hard, dead stump. I highly recommend this tool!
