4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Support
This support is worlds above what you can buy at drug stores. It offers extremely good quality and the criss/cross straps are what most people need to support weak knees. Ignore what others have said about the sizing. McDavid's chart is spot on. Neoprene supports are supposed to be tight. That is how they work. The upper and lower straps are there to prevent...

The 425 knee brace "WAS" the best knee brace I have ever had! I'm a very active recreational basketball player, I have minor torn meniscus in both of my knees. So, being a very athletic active guy, I have unstable knees! The old design had the cross straps start from behind the knee and come together at the top of the thigh and shin. The new design has the cross straps...

This support is worlds above what you can buy at drug stores. It offers extremely good quality and the criss/cross straps are what most people need to support weak knees. Ignore what others have said about the sizing. McDavid's chart is spot on. Neoprene supports are supposed to be tight. That is how they work. The upper and lower straps are there to prevent slippage and the cross straps put pressure above and below the patella for tracking. I know of what I speak. I have been an athlete for 40 years and I have used many supports. Recently I was diagnosed with severe arthritis in my right knee (due to an old injury) and after surgery and recovery I have been looking for a good knee support. I believe I have found it in the McDavid Ligament Knee Support. Once again, do not listen to those who have say it runs small. It does not! Tight is Right!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The 425R has great support, not too restrictive. Sizing a little small, February 26, 2011

I wear one all day. Improves my condition by about 50% to 75%. Takes a little getting used to when mountain bike riding. While wearing it during the day I have to remember not to bend my leg too much, while sitting, to stop my leg from falling asleep (same feeling when an arm goes numb from sleeping on it). I bought a total of 4 because I need a clean one after mountain bike riding.

I found that the sizing chart, on the McDavid web site "mcdavidusa.com/store/zoom1.asp?SIZING_ID=69", to be one size too small. I measured my knee, while straight at 15 ½ inches and fully bent at 17 inches. This implies a "Large" size but I had to get an X-Large.

Paid $ 33.99 and shipping was free. Purchased on 01-21-2011 directly from Amazon.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great support for hiking!!!, June 30, 2010

I dislocated my right knee on a recent hiking trip. I chose the McDavid for it's ligament support, which it does very well; especialy with heavy, down-hill loads. I would recommend this to anyone with strained ligaments.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product but size runs small, October 24, 2010

Overall, a great product. Provides very good knee support for rigorous walking/jogging. However, sizes run small/tight, so most will need a size Large or X-Large. Returned a medium because it was just too tight.

I purchased this product after doing quite a big of online research. I have a torn meniscus and arthritis in my right knee and the combination caused my knee to occasionally buckle on me when going down stairs or steep inclins. The brace is a bit on the balky side and the 4 velcro straps seem more complicated than needed but it performs it's job very well. When properly adjusted it keeps the knee stable with greatly reduces pain. I wear it at my gym when doing my cardio workout (stationary bike, treadmill and elliptical machine and it makes a big difference in the pain i was having.

1.0 out of 5 stars New design flawed, August 14, 2011
This review is from: McDavid Ligament Knee Support (Sports)
The 425 knee brace "WAS" the best knee brace I have ever had! I'm a very active recreational basketball player, I have minor torn meniscus in both of my knees. So, being a very athletic active guy, I have unstable knees! The old design had the cross straps start from behind the knee and come together at the top of the thigh and shin. The new design has the cross straps start at the MCL and LCL ligaments. I find this design to be flawed because, Neoprene...the stretchy material that it is...when you go to tighten the cross straps, it actually pulls the two medial/lateral rods on the side forward towards the knee cap, leaving MCL and LCL ligaments susceptible to injury! Furthermore, if you have torn or worn down meniscus cartilage which causes the knee to be unstable during instance activity...if you have the straps pulling the rods forward, all your really doing is stretching the neoprene fabric in the back and causing the front to bunch up as your being active! However, if Mcdavid had stuck w/ the original design, then the straps would come over the rods keeping them in place and support unstable knees because the cross strap would cover the entire knee from back to front, offering the "level II" support that they claim!

Mcdavid says that the new design is more comfortable w/o the seamless back! I don't feel a change in comfort...and, i'd take the seamless back over a torn ligament or a slip knee any and every time!!!

Mcdavid, you "HAD" the perfect product! At a very economical price too!

Great product. I was unable to find the small size of the McDavid Ligament Knee support in stores. Luckily I found it on Amazon. Delivery was quick and product is very effective, no pain when I am playing tennis.

4.0 out of 5 stars McDavid Ligament Support, July 25, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have been looking for a knee support when I run and I think I've found a keeper. I work in a chiropractic office and the doctor recommended this one for my knee condition (my kneecap on my right leg will slightly pop out of place and then I have to sit there are wiggle my knee around until it goes back in....very annoying). It fits true to size, and the numerous straps work great at stabilizing everything. Although the criss-cross straps can be annoying every now and then, but nothing to make or break the functionality of the brace. It doesn't slide down my leg during workouts at all, which is great. Cleaning is simple, just hand wash with some detergent, hang dry, and you're good to go! It's made of neoprene, so it doesn't offer much by way of breath-ability, but you can't have it all.

All in all it's a great brace for everyday activities or for use during sports.

Hope this helps!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good enough, April 8, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The brace works well and holds my knee steady. I did have to cut off the top crisscross type strap, because when both the top and bottom crisscross straps are attached it causes the brace to bunch up on the sides which diggs into my skin. It works well after the strap cutting.
