Here are the sizes to help you decide. Unfortunately both the large and X-large fit me. I decided to go with large because my past knee braces have expanded over time. Otherwise it's a good product.
McDavid Knee Braces SIZE KNEE (Circumference) SMALL 12"-14" MEDIUM 14"-15" LARGE 15"-17" X-LARGE 17"-20" XX-LARGE 20"-22"

My daughter recommended a different McDavid knee brace to me, but I knew that I needed the XX-large sizing of this model. It is not at all expensive, but it is so comfortable that I can wear it all day without pain. My knee is getting better because of this brace. The neoprene is soft and easy to clean, and I can wear it under most of my pants or let it show when I wear shorts. Sometimes I wear it with the red side out just for a change, and it seems to work just as well while it adds a cheerful accent to my casual outfits.
I spent almost as much money on ill-fitting braces at the drugstore, but this is the one! I heartily recommend it.

Very helpful to my knees, but they slide down my legs!,

I purchased two of these because they come in size 2X, and it is difficult for me to find knee supports that fit my plus-sized body without making me feel like I am wearing a tourniquet. The fit guidelines on the McDavid website are accurate and the knee supports are true to size. They give me adequate support, retain heat, supply compression, and do not make me feel too strangled when I wear them.
Another thing I like about them is that they are simple. There are not a lot of complicated velcro straps, hinges or other paraphenalia that get in my way - I just slip them on and they do their job. They are perfect for minor injuries that do not need massive support. The support is very light and would not be good for severe knee issues. The negatives are that they do not breathe (so they are hot and sweaty in the summer), and they do not stay up well (so I am always having to pull them up). If I don't hike them up every few steps, they are down around my ankles after a few minutes. It is inconvenient, but I really don't care because the support they offer frees me from needing to take pain meds. They give the tendons, ligamints, joints, muscles, nerves and connective tissues some much needed support and rest so my injuries can heal without me being confined to bed all the time or constantly taking pain killers. I wouldn't want to wear them all the time, but it is so much better than the alternatives. They do the job with minimal inconvience and discomfort. I am really glad I ordered them.

I have weak knees. They can hurt. I play ice hockey. I'm 51. These hold my knees together very well. I can feel a huge difference if I forget to wear them. As long as i do, I don't have the usual problems with my knees on stairs, etc. Will be using them for tennis in the spring as well.
They DO make you sweat but just dry them carefully after use.

I have had good luck with this product in the past, but the latest one tore apart at one of the seams. It was used for maybe 50 hours of exercise. Because Amazon does not allow returns after 30 days, I am out of luck, and out $12.

The reason I gave this product 2 stars is because I had to return it because it was to small. My only advise to big guys like myself is measure like I did and if you are borderline on the high end of measuement shy away from this product. The quality looked ok, I just couldn't use it.

Watch sizing,

Seems to be of good quality. Their XXL is comparable in size to most companies XL and as someone else posted there isn't any measurable difference between L and XL.

As we age, our bodies are subject to ware and tare. Yes, the soft fat pad tissue at our knee too. This knee support will hold the two crescent-shaped discs positioned between the tibia and femur i.e. not to spin side way while you are running; hence, reduce the tension in grinding the tissues at the knee discs. I bought one for my right knee at a sporting goods store; when I want one for my left knee, I simply ordered from Amazon. I took two stars off because the one received from mail order is slightly shorter (1/2") while the double lining at the knee around the hole is missing i.e. when comparing to the photo and the one from the store. I guess what I got earlier is from old inventory i.e. before the manufacturer trimmed down the quality of the product because of cost, you know, it is a very common practice when the owner of the brand trying to keep the retail price and margin the same while material or labor costs from Taiwan/China are increasing. Well, you never win, you keep the money but hurt the goodwill or the future of the brand.

A bit dissapointed,

I painstakingly read reviews with a bid to ensure that I ordered just the right size. Measured my knee circumference and along with the reviews I read finally settled on ordering LARGE. When I received it however it was not the best fit. On top of that after working out or walking around for a while in it, it begins to slip down as I sweat, thereby rendering it ineffective in carrying out its function. I'm in Jamaica so returning it is not even an option for consideration. maybe the MEDIUM would have been the ideal choice for my 16" circumference...

Worked great for about four days.,

This support is very comfortable, providing good compression to my knee, and a pleasant warmth to the joint without making it extra sweaty. My knee measures right at 17", so I could have gone with the large or extra-large; I chose large and I think that's the right choice. It's tight enough without being too constricting.
One small problem I have with it is the seams on the back of the leg. They are very flat, which is good, but they provide just enough friction to irritate the incision site from a surgery I had. I don't know if that would even matter to someone who hadn't had the back of their knee sliced up, but it's something to keep in mind. The back of the support also bunches up slightly when my leg is bent but is easy enough to pull back into place. The seams are the weak point; after having the support for under a week, I was putting it on and a thread popped. There was an unzipping sound as a seam unraveled about three inches. I know that threads can break, and this might be an isolated incident. I'll wait and see how the replacement support holds up! I posted a picture of the label, but I'll include the info here too: MADE IN TAIWAN 100% NEOPRENE RUBBER/100% NYLON HAND WASH IN LUKEWARM WATER MILD DETERGENT RINSE THOROUGHLY DRIP DRY ONLY (No ETU, no latex) |
