3.0 out of 5 stars Good price. Not sure it works for me though
I started running this past summer and in the last couple of months have been having pain in my left leg. (Anterior pain in the ankle and shin.) I ordered the splints hoping they would give me relief from the pain and help when I run. They haven't hurt my situation but I'm not sure they've helped either. I find that I have to have a barrier between my skin and the rubber...

5.0 out of 5 stars Shin Relief, March 31, 2010

I was training for a half marathon and developed a nasty case of shin splints. I tried doing the icing thing, did the rest thing, and even bought some tape to provide relief and none helped eliminate the pain. On a whim I purchased this product and am happy to announce I can run again! As other reviewers noted, you can adjust tightness in three different areas and this product offers excellent support. As a bonus I started wearing it to work and it fits under dress slacks. I would highly recommend this product for not only running but daily use as well. It breathes well, easy to use, and most importantly offers great support.

5.0 out of 5 stars Effective and comfortable, October 18, 2009

I am not certain that my symptoms (tingling, some numbness and pain in the upper shin, typically brought on by changing intensity during running) were truly indicative of shin splints; however, I can say that since I've worn this product, I have not experienced the symptoms. I like the guides that sit on either side of the shin bone; that's really what provides the needed pressure. In addition, you can adjust the straps independently according to your desired degree of support at three places along the shin. The whole apparatus is smooth when worn so it wears well under snug workout pants. I recommend washing and/or rinsing it soon after each use to keep the product like new.

5.0 out of 5 stars With some adjustments worked perfectly!, April 30, 2011

The first time I wore these they made the pain worse, I got home packaged them back up to send back to Amazon. I decided to try them one more time. I made them both more loose and wore the one on my right leg (my right leg is worse) right above my ankle bone. The one of my left leg, I wore a couple of inches higher. Sure enough I had no pain in my right leg (the side that is much worse) and pain was still pretty bad on my left leg. (Although not as painful as usual) I stopped and adjusted the left side to match the right side. After a short break I had no pain in either leg! I have been using them ever since and I wish that I would have bought them last year when the pain first started. I would definately experiment with them before deciding that they aren't for you. Just remember not to make them too tight and for me I have to wear them lower on my leg than where I feel the pain at.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great McDavid product, December 7, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

McDavid makes great products and this is no different.

I have had shin splints since high school playing tennis. But these days I mainly get shin splints during basketball. It was inevitable that I would be in pain during and after playing sports. I love sports too much to just stop playing, so I had to find a solution.

My only grief is that I waited so long to find this product. I also purchased McDavid's other calf/shin support (sleeve) which is on their website to be considered as "tier 1 protection". This product is listed as "tier 2". The other product is okay, but does not provide nearly as much support for my shin splints. I would say this product reduced my pain by at least 50% or more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Effective and comfortable, January 8, 2010

This is a good, inexpensive product. I have a pretty serious calf strain that has me laid up, and compression is something I have never had to do before. without it, every step hurts. I tried wrapping an ace bandage, but I could not get an even pressure on the calf and that made it still hurt. So when I looked for a calf support, I'd say stay away from the type you have to wrap around and around. You can't get a good even wrap that way, I would guess. The tube style look very hard to put on for my injury, which is pretty tender. So I got this one, best of all possible worlds, easy to put on but nice broad straps for even support. When I put this support on, it felt so comfortable I figured it would have no effect, even though it was on pretty tight, I could barely feel it. But when I took a step, surprise! I immediately felt way more comfortable. Most steps are pain-free, although I still have to be very careful. Pretty cool!

I've been running 2 miles a day. I'm 6 ft, 243 lbs so I may be putting a lot of pressure on my calves. I've been having pain in my left calf after running, sometimes to the point where I just start walking. I've read that it can take weeks to months for shin splints to heal, so I needed something to releive the pain when I run. When I strap on the McDavid Shin Splint Support and do my 2-mile run, I don't feel near as much pain as I normally do. I've been able to do a all out sprint at the end of my run. This device definately helps with the pain, I wouldn't say it totally eliminates it, but I can keep running without near as much pain as before. I purchased two of these devices to get free shipping. You'll probably want to keep 2 of them on hand so when one wears out, you'll have a backup. The device is comfortable to wear, but I don't have large calves. The tubular rib inside the device helps a lot when it comes to compression and support. I'll definitely keep buying this product as long as I have shin splints.

I started running this past summer and in the last couple of months have been having pain in my left leg. (Anterior pain in the ankle and shin.) I ordered the splints hoping they would give me relief from the pain and help when I run. They haven't hurt my situation but I'm not sure they've helped either. I find that I have to have a barrier between my skin and the rubber supports in the middle of the splint, or I get skin irritation. Also, they slip a bit when I run. It could be that I just didn't choose the correct product for my situation. I also ordered an ankle support and that seems to help me more than the shin supports. However, for the money, I think they're about as good as shin supports get, so I'll keep them and continue to use them.

I suffer from shin splints pretty bad sometimes from running so much (Air Force) and having low (almost no) arches. Once I used these, they were great. I was able to run with minimal to no pain at further distances and faster speeds.

2.0 out of 5 stars left marks on my shins, November 14, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I have a fairly large calf. This product did not fit or wear very well. On top of it not fitting at all, it has some rubber support running the length of the product which left me with a rash. It left me with two lined rashes, where the rubber support was, for a week or so.

5.0 out of 5 stars great for shin splints!, April 26, 2011

This review is from: Shin Splint (Sports)
im usually hesitant when it comes to running because 80% of the time i get shin splints that last a week. So i thought id try these out since it got good reviews and boy am i glad i got them! Ive used them for about 2 weeks now, and i usually run 2miles/day 3x a week or so? not much of a runner but then again i avoided it bc of the pain!

So i am def looking forward to pushing myself a little harder and longer on my runs now since i dont have to worry about the painful shin splints. order 2, cause its not a pair. also, it might take some getting used to w the strap adjustments. first few times i did it way too tight and my legs were getting cramped but after i found my comfy settings, it didnt get in the way. i just wish i found out about these sooner.. . thanks again amazon, love the ratings and feedbacks that help determine if its worth getting!! will def buy these again in the near future

stats : male 5'10" 175pds, athletic build these fit fine
