I am recovering from a fractured knee cap and my doctor just took me out of a full leg immobilizer. Without any assistance, my knee is incredibly weak, unstable and not capable of a full range of motion. It also buckles if I walk without a cane or this brace...

Since donning the McDavid brace and had it overnighted. It's been worth every penny. The compression it provides is giving my knee the extra support it needs to help me walk around (without a cane). And the aluminum hinges have given me extra stability, increased my knee's ability to support weight and helped stop my knee from buckling and hyper-extending.

Is it pricey? Yes. Is it worth it to walk around normally, until I'm back to 100%. Yes, yes, yes!

I choose a McDavid knee brace after my injury because my knees bothered me before injury and I used one of their level II braces and loved it. Since this brace (a Level III) is of such great quality, McDavid will become my first choose for similar purchases....

I just hope I don't need them again anytime soon ;-)

I have a fairly severe MCL injury from downhill skiing. This brace has been helping me get around. It's relatively low-profile and fits under most of my pant legs just fine. The hook and loop tightening is nice and helps keep the brace in place. I needed the large and was concerned about the overall length of the brace given my short-person legs -- the length is appropriate and not too long.

Being a heavy-duty brace, it's not very breathable, but that is to be expected with this type of brace. The neoprene in the back however, is lighter weight and breaths a bit; it also cause less bunching, which is nice.

The pockets for the hinged braces seem well constructed and are holding up well, even after 5 straight weeks of daily use (10+ hours per day).

I love the pull tabs on the top. I've had other braces without these and they are definitely a great feature. It makes getting the brace on much easier! (I wish they had them on the bottom too.)

One problem: The knee cap opening is a bit small for me, and adds a lot of pressure around my knee cap.

used to have knee problems when i did high impact sports like skiing and squash. after getting this, it really made my knee pain go away. be careful about wearing it for a prolonged time though, it may cause abrasions.

Old knees need help. I have a drawer full of various knee braces that I have collected and used over the years. Now that is where they will stay.

When I heard and felt a tearing when my knee gave out spontaneously last November, it scared me. I tried braces from my drawer. They did not help - much. I bought a few more and they are now in the drawer. This McDavid Pro Stabilizer Knee Brace in XL works. It is snug without cutting off circulation. Walking down stairs with it on is no longer painful. I have others with metal side supports, but this McDavid brace works better than those. When I say it works, I mean that walking down stairs it feels like I am supporting myself on the hand rail even when I am not.

Reading Amazon reviews helped me to decide to pay the price. I do not look back. In fact after my next billing date passes I plan to buy a back up. It is because of those reviews that I am making these comments. They helped me. I hope this will help you.

It is a bit bulky and I have to remember to put it on (not ever day because I THINK it has helped the natural healing process) before getting dressed in jeans or chinos. It is ok to get on while wearing sweats. And it is pricy.

BUT IT WORKS!!!

I tore my ACL in a month, and without using the brace, my knee had the feeling of constantly giving out and felt extremely uncomfortable. After deciding to use the brace, I was able to fully put weight on it, and it almost felt like I had an instant ACL replacement! I wore it while walking around the Las Vegas strip and it worked marvelously! I was walking faster than everyone I was with!

The stabilizer has greatly reduced the pain when I walk, climb stairs or exercise. It gave me more confidence to do things that I usually hesitated to try because of the pain. The downers are that it is bulky under long pants and the material does not breathe.

This is a great knee brace. I've owned two of them. The first lasted for at least 4-5 years and I still use it occassionally as a backup. The brace is very durable and works great at releaving knee pain. Its worth every penny!
