Book Description

November 18, 2003 Putnam Aviation (Book 1)
The Putnam on McDonnell Douglas was first published in 1979, and acclaimed as both an important contribution to aviation history and one of the most comprehensive of all the Putnam manufacturers series. An expanded two-volume edition was published in 1988. Now, a further revised edition, taking the story up to the merger with Boeing in 1997, will be brought into print in Spring 2003, in the newer, larger format. The first volume covers Douglas aircraft, from their beginnings in 1920s Los Angeles up to the merger with the McDonnell Aircraft Coroporation in 1967. It will then deal with the McDonnell Dougals aircraft designed at Long Beach. The aircraft in this volume include the Douglas DT, the SBD Dauntless, the DC-3 - possibly the most famous propellor-driven passenger aircraft in the world - the A-4 Skyhawk, and the DC-10 passenger jet. The book also includes a production summary of all aircraft built and/or built by Douglas and its associated companies.
