Increasing consolidation in the international aviation industry has lead to the loss of yet another famous name when in early 2001, the last of the McDonnell Douglas MD-11s was rolled out. This title is a fitting tribute to the last of a long and famous line of aircraft to carry the McDonnell Douglas name. The MD-11 was a follow-on to the DC-10 and proved less successful in terms of numbers produced. If you're looking for the history of the MD-11 this is the book. Very well written with a good mix of pictures, history and technical information.

I have flown and/or taught the MD-11 since 1994. I've been to the Long Beach facility to see the airplane built, and flown MD's right after they were delivered to World Airways. This is a great book, not only for the MD-11, it gives some great shots of the MD in various paint schemes, most of which ARE World Airways aircraft that I've flown.
This book also has some good stuff at the end about the DC-10 and the KC-10, both of which I've flown. It's got some good info on the KC-10 tail numbers that are good. This is a great "coffee table" book or a great reference book to settle any arguments about this wonderful machine! Enjoy!

The MD-11 - a sadly maligned beast of the airways. With it's well publised problems upon entry to service and being a victim of bad timing, the MD-11 has always been a little ignored when compared to it's Airbus and Boeing rivals. This book is probably the best read about the MD-11, covering it's development, the PIP program and it's service with airlines around the world. An added bonus is the coverage of the MD-10 program for FEDEX. Overall an informative read with plenty of excellent illustrations and photos.
