McDuff's Hide-and-Seek: Lift the Flap/Pull the Tab Book

With all due respect to the previous reviewer, this book was great for my daughter. I agree that some children might have trouble pulling the tabs, but then, some children have trouble resisting the temptation to eat bugs - what can you do? My little one really enjoyed this book as she tore it to smithereens. A bunny here, McDuff there, a tree - whoops! Soon, we were down to a few remaining flaps and the fixed images, but she still loves the thing. Now, this could be indicative of some sort of cognitive dementia, but I think she is just having fun. I am now ordering her another copy. Perhaps now that she is rapidly approaching one year of age, she will have the maturity and forethought not to rend McDuff from the pages. Or not.

My 4 year old son and 1 1/2 year old daughter are McDuff fans, but I bought this book for my daughter. While the prose is age-appropriate for her, manipulating the tabs is too difficult for her. At first, she wanted to pull on McDuff or the bunny, but when I showed her she had to pull the tab, she tried that and couldn't do it. My son has trouble with about half the tabs in the book, but the prose is far too simple for him. He knows it's a baby book.

The book would have been much better with just lift-the-flaps. In that case, I could leave the book on a low shelf for my daughter to read any time, along with her other lift-the-flap books. Instead, I have to put it up high. I don't like doing that, but she will tear it in frustration if I don't.

Save your money for other McDuff books. You can't go wrong with the original McDuff books, and I saw the McDuff touch-and-feel book which looked fine for babies.

We love all the McDuff books. This one is just as cute and lively as the other ones. The drawings are beautiful, and the story is cute. My daughter loves reading her "puppy book". Plus, we have a Westie so that makes it even more special to us.

This is our Daughter's ABSOLUTE favorite book...she wants to read it every night before bed. Perhaps she has a preference for this book because we have a westie just like McDuff, and we replace the name McDuff with our dog's name, Bailey. Regardless, she loves the flaps and "helps" us to pull the tabs. Given the fact that we read this so often, McDuff has only "needed one repair" so far, he just "jumped off the page." I recommend this book to everyone who can supervise the reading time until the child is old enough to respect books on their own.

Before I even knew we were going to be grandparents, I bought this book. I thought it would be a great start for a children's library in our home. Our 2 1/2 yr old Grandson LOVES this book! It is a must read each and every time he visits. Of course, being too young to read the words, he substitutes "DUNCAN" for McDuff, because that is the name of OUR Westie!
I will be adding other McDuff books to our library, as they capture the true nature of our Westie...and are a delight to both the child and the adult! What a wonderful way to introduce reading into young lives!!!
