This review is from: McFARLANE SPORTS FIGURINE (Toy)
Hopefully Red Sox fans who are looking for this 6" figure of the power pitcher who signed with Boston this year will search for it under "Boston Red Sox" or "MLB Series 10" (how I found it) because right now this is supposedly a figure for "Curt Shilling" when it should be "Curt Schilling" (to be totally accurate it is actually the "Curt Shilling 2" figure from McFarlane Toys). The key details on this figure are the bulging veins in Schilling's neck and the way his glove is completely closed in his left hand. Schilling must be pitching in the top of the first because his uniform is spotless, a rarity with these McFarlane figures. This is the home White Boston Red Sox Jersey version of the figure; there is a Road Grey version available as well, but this nice clean home white jersey would be the obvious preference for BoSox fans without a doubt. Of course Boston fans are happy to have Schilling back (the organization traded him to Baltimore along with Brady Anderson, for Mike Boddicker as the Red Sox geared up for the 1988 pennant race). Coming into this season Schilling is 163-117 with a 3.33 ERA and 2,542 strikeouts. He went 22-6 with 293 strikeouts and a 2.98 ERA in 2001 as the Diamondbacks won the championship, then followed with a 23-7 record, 316 strikeouts and 3.23 ERA the next year. Both years he finished second to Johnson in the NL Cy Young Award voting. During the past winner the Red Sox corrected that mistake, sending Casey Fossum and righty Brandon Lyon to the Diamondbacks, along with minor league pitcher Jorge De La Rosa and a minor leaguer to be named to get Schilling. Having Schilling back gives the Red Sox somebody who has actually been on a team that has beaten the Yankees in the postseason. The World Series co-MVP with teammate Randy Johnson in 2001 with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Schilling also won the 2001 Roberto Clemente and Branch Rickey Awards, baseball's highest community service honors, for his work in the search for a cure for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, known as Lou Gehrig's disease; the Schilling family has raised over $3 million to fight the disease. Not surprisingly he was named the Sport News Sportsman of the Year because you cannot find a major league baseball player who shows as much class on and off the field as Curt Schilling. |
