This review is from: McFarlane Toys AVP Alien VS. Predator Movie Series 2 Action Figure Alien Queen (Toy)
Although this particular "base" scene was never quite shown in the movie, it's still a wonderful addition to the collection. If you already previously purchased the Alien Queen also made by McFarlane a few years back (from the movie Aliens), you will notice a few similarities.

First off, the most noticable thing is the size. MUCH smaller than that other huge Alien Queen, yet nicely proportioned, and it's pose is similar to the previous one as well, right down to the pegs in the feet, so it will only stand with it's base. A major improvments here is actual metal pegs in the feet to hold her majesty in her base this time without breaking off. The paint job is mostly a black gloss, as opposed to the flat, grey tones of the previous. A bit on a down note, there are less joints to pose her in-- no hand swivel joints, an queenie's 2nd pair of smaller chest arms are permanantly attached (which is fine by me, they didn't do anything anyway). The facial features are very nicely done, teeth openin' wide (although her teeth aren't clear which is minor), even showing the double jaw. Her head is also sculpted more like the AVP movie; some spikes integrated on her "crown", as well as some battle damage with rougher edges and small "broken" areas, with yellow/green alien "blood" smeared and splattered to nice effect. This is clearly after she bust out of her egg chamber, but yet she doesn't have the stray chain which would ultimately doom her later on. This is nothing though, since I rather just have the queen solo anyway. (The Takara Microman line of AVP stuff which were just released make this McFarlane queen a near perfect scale to them, despite releasing a Queen in their line)

McFarlane makes some wonderful things, but I've never found their plastic quality outstanding, thats the only reason I gave her some slightly low marks on that. This particular "2nd line" of AVP items isn't meant to be "action figures" but playsets and dioramas, most set in fixed poses, as you may have guessed from pictures. These are NOT scaled to any other McFarlane product, so be advised. Overall, the Queen is the only one I'm actually interested in, but I wonder why we never got a Captive Queen Egg Chamber, since this particular figure was so close to the one released in Movie Maniacs. This set is awesome though, a real sweet addition.
