You certainly get the feeling that Reggie Jackson has gone deep at the big ballyard in the Bronx when you look at this McFarlane Toys figure. However, I do not think this is one of Mr. October's World Series home runs for the simple reason that of the eight home runs that Jackson hit for the New York Yankees in his three Fall Classic appearances with the team none of them were hit at Yankee Stadium in a day game. Notice that Jackson is wearing sunglasses, which are usually not useful at night. In 1977 Jackson hit home runs in day games at Los Angeles in Games 4 and 5 before teeing off for three home runs on three swings against three different Dodger pitchers the night of Game 6 at New York. In 1978 he hit again two home runs in Los Angeles but they were both in night games and in 1981 his one home run was a day game in L.A. That means that the only time Reggie Jackson hit World Series home runs at Yankee Stadium was the night he hit three.

This figure of Reggie Jackson muscling out a low pitch is one of six figures that make up the first series in the Cooperstown Collection from McFarlane Toys. Fans have been requesting that the company come up with figures of retired sports legends and this year them have solved the licensing problems and in addition to Jackson there are his fellow Hall of Famers Bob Gibson of the St. Louis Cardinals, Brooks Robinson of the Baltimore Orioles, Nolan Ryan as a member of the Texas Rangers, Tom Seaver as a New York Met, and Lawrence "Yogi" Berra of the New York Yankees. If you think the players in the Cooperstown Collection are limited to living members of the Baseball Hall of Fame change your thinking because the next series will have Babe Ruth, Catfish Hunter, and Willie Stargell, all of who have passed away, as well as Cal Ripken, Jr., who will not be elected on the first ballot until 2007. Mike Schmidt and Willie Mays round out the sextet.

The six-inch figure of Jackson in his class post-home run swing watching the ball disappear has the period-specific uniform and equipment that are par for the course in these figures. Besides the sunglasses there is also the nice little detail of the batting glove in the back pocket that Jackson would put on once he reached base, only he does not have to do that this time because the ball is ending up somewhere in the deep part of Yankee Stadium given where Reggie is looking. The base includes home plate and part of the batters box. For those who have been waiting for McFarlane to do the same great job with the legends of the game that they have been doing with the stars of today, this series is turning out to be just what we wanted.

This is a great toy for display. It shows the classic stance when Reggie Jackson would hit his famous homeruns in the world series. Very lifelike and durable, would highly recomend it to all basball fans, of course yankee fans its a must have for thier collection.
