I got this toy for my 12th birthday and even though it was a few months ago, I still have a lot of fun with it. Right now it is posed by my E.O.D. spartan. It is very detailed, and the duel maulers are awesome. unfortunately, they don't fit into the right hand, which must be molded for pistols etc. A very cool thing it can do is hold the 1999 Darth Vader lightsaber in the right hand. Also, the interchangeable armor is a nice.
P.S. ignore the ages 14 and up notice. It is as simple as any other action figure. Here is another great Halo toy. Halo 2009 Wave 1 Spartan Soldier EOD

This is the only Halo 3 McFarlane toy I've purchased online. I already had one of this type prior, and suffice to say an attempted customization left me unimpressed with my handiwork, thus I wanted an untampered version.

These are definitely cool toys. The attention to detail and obvious passion the sculptors have for the Halo universe goes without question. That said, I have more nitpicks than acclaim for this toy, which are critiques of all the Spartans in general.

My first issue is scale. When the merchandising for the first two games was designed by Joyride, the figures were all approximately 7 inches tall, which was the perfect scale. McFarlane Toys made an interesting decision to benchmark their Spartans at 5 inches in height. I've just stood this guy up, legs as straight as they can be with balance, and he registers at 5 and 1/8 inches tall, not the 6 given in the product description. What this odd reduction in total scale does is make the weapons, with all their skinny barrels and thin handles, incredibly frail. A good example is the forward grip of the rocket launcher - my efforts to get the Spartan to hold it the way you would hold it in real life have summarily broken that handle off the launcher. A big part of this issue is the hands. It comes as no surprise that the right hands would be sculpted in the 'pulling trigger' gesture, but the plastic on most of the hands is so firm, getting the weapons in there is almost certain to damage that tiny plastic gun. Likewise, I've bent the grip of the SMG belonging to the invisible Chief because his hands are utterly rigid. The hands present another risk - if a hand of your Spartan seems too stiff in its socket, Do Not try to force it. I twisted the left hand clean off my red CQB Spartan simply because the socket was too tight on the wrist pin. I would argue that had these toys been benchmarked at 7 inches tall, these little problems wouldn't be so prevalent.

My second issue is color - I don't know who thought 'snot green' would be a good color for this Spartan, nor do I understand the fluorescent yellow for the one EVA Spartan (or calling a color that's clearly Maroon 'crimson' on the other EVA Spartan); suffice to say somebody in the color-design department at McFarlane Toys needs their vision checked.

But they are cool little guys, and if you're like me you're not so much playing with them - they're decorations. They essentially are trophies for geeks - little symbols of our dedication, and I know I will continue to collect them despite the minor flaws brought on by their size.

4.0 out of 5 stars Security Spartan, March 19, 2009

This is a very good replica of the Spartan Security Armor Varient, as it even includes the little radio on the back. While it comes with dual maulers, I found it a pain to try and get him to grasp them. Overall, he's very flexible, and the joints work out perfectly. I've tried swapping armor with some of my other olive spartans and the system seems to work very well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Halo Security Spartan, March 3, 2010

I have to say that McFarlane does some very nice action figures, but I would make sure the word "action" is always in small letters.
If you plan to really PLAY with this figure, be warned that not all "joints" are created equal.
And by that, I mean that some articulated joints will be LOOSE, others will work just fine, and one or two might be SO tight, you'll wind up twisting off a part (like the right hand, which I accidently did right away).
With that said, a touch of super glue hides a myriad of design flaws okay.

The figure itself is very well rendered, and the number of articulation points isn't bad for a figure this size.
The hands DO need to be made of softer plastic in order to properly HOLD the weapons included. You also get a Radar-Jamming device.
The accessories could have included a Magnum (pistol) or at least an SMG.
When you play the real game, a combo of weapons like I just mentioned works real well, unlike having to always get in close and do a double tap with BOTH Mauler auto-shotguns.

Perhaps what might be needed to lose the problems with the joints on the figure (which other reviewers have had issues with as well) would be to use a small METAL ball and socket melded to the plastic...just a thought, in case you FIGURE DESIGNERS are reading these reviews.
And at the prices being charged for some of these figures, what's a little "heavy metal" to make them work correctly and not break so easily?

It's still a 9 out of 10 on the "coolness" scale.
But it COULD have been an easy TEN.

B.G.

It arrived on time, which in my book is a plus.It is as good as the others I have bought in the past except for this. It can barely stand up, the joints are so loose I have to pose it in a kneeling position. None of the others have had this problem so it might the luck of the draw. To sum up it looks great, good detail, nothing fell off during shipping and it arrived on time I just wish it wasn't such a lush.

When i first got this, i was excited. But when i opened it, his legs fell off, right hand broke, and the maulers wouldn't fit. This might have been only a 1 in a million chance, but i would reccomend it to people who have patience.
