5.0 out of 5 stars An AVP enthuiast says..., August 14, 2004

(Written by Mrs. Gregory's son) This figure is AWSOME! It looks just like one of the aliens from the movies. It is very well detailed comes with 3 face huggers which you can place any where. The alien attaches to the base in 2 different stances. There is also a toung shooting function, you just push the button on the back of his head and it shoots right out! It is fully posable and the tail is bendable. This figure is eduational because it lets you look closely at the alien and the face huggers so you can observe their awsome architecture. There was only one problem which i cannot fix, my alien's head was scratched by one of the wires that held in the box :( Other than that I would highly recomend this figure!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great large-scale figure, August 31, 2004

McFarlane's 12" Alien is darn near perfect. I count 14 points of articulation, plus the bendy tail. The construction seems pretty durable; however, as with the small-scale version, this figure is hard to stand without the base. It can be done, but you'll have to work at it. My only other complaint would be the "skull cap." For whatever reason the front of the cap is completely opaque while the rest is completely clear. In the original movie, the whole skull cap was just slightly translucent. These are minor points, though. I would recommend this figure to all Alien fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best ALIEN ever!, August 28, 2004

McFarlane has done it again -- their new 12" ALIEN figure is by far the best sculpt of the creature yet! I have the Kenner version from 1979, and this matches it in sheer coolness. I don't know "fun" kids will find it, but it has close to 20 points of articulation so it can be posed in a variety of ways for display (stand and 3 facehuggers included). Plus, the inner tongue shoots out, ready to bite any of your 12" G.I. Joe figures right in the head... (Unlike the '79 version, however, the jaws are permanently molded in the open position.)

Another cool thing about it is that they molded it in translucent, black plastic and then painted over it. If you hold it up to the light, it looks truly creepy.

This thing has some nice heft to it but at the same time seems too fragile in places to be "played" with extensively. Definitely designed more for the adult collector, but really worth the price -- comic shops are asking $45 for it so buy one quick before Amazon catches on.

4.0 out of 5 stars A must-have for any collector..., October 1, 2009

The Mcfarlane series has always been about capturing the accurate details of these iconic movie creatures, and this model is no exception. The alien has been expertly sculpted, and the articulation is more than satisfactory. The fully pliable-articulation tail makes capturing the serpentine nature of the alien that much more interesting in poses. My only issue with the item is that, as many other reviews state, this sucker's very stubborn in terms of balance. Depending on how you want him to stand, he can be very top heavy and has toppled on me more than once, even when fixed to the base - the anchoring pegs are effective but the base really lacks enough mass to counterbalance the tipping. But once you get it in a stable position, it's all good.
The little facehuggers are adorable, too.
As a huge Aliens nerd, this was an "I have to have it" reaction to seeing it, and I know any other fan would have the same reaction.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enter the Dragon, October 14, 2004

BEGIN COMPANY TRANSMISSION X4312.a.2: McFarlane Toys' joint venture with the biowarfare R&D division of Weyland-Yutani has done a superior job with this scale model of our Galaxy's perfect biological weapon: the Alien Xenomorph "Warrior", horrific inhabitant of Zeta II Reticula Beta IV LV-426, destroyer of the LV-426 Hadley's Hope Terraforming installation, terror of the Fiorina 161 Prison Facility, presumed annihilator of the Auriga Bio-Science Preserve.

Allow me some degree of emotion when I say this is a breathtakingly faithful model of a beautiful specimen!

Company administrators, scientists, military personnel, deep space ore-freighter captains, and xeno-biologists alike will find this an invaluable resource in getting a close-encounter with the Alien Warrior---and living to tell the tale. Xeno-Biologists in particular will appreciate the sturdiness and weight of this lifelike model, to say nothing of the 16 points of articulation and "bendy" tail.

It is impossible for the trained scientist not to appreciate the beauty and strength of the Xenomorph's structural design and marvel at some of the beast's still unexplained biological peculiarities. Note the heavily armored exoskeleton, consisting of a reinforced external ribcage bolstering a hardened endo-dermal carapace. Carefully inspect the beast's naturally armored hawberk about the shoulder and neck region, perfectly tailored for defense, as well as the the spiky, tubular, reinforced dorsal spines. Are these dorsal spines used in secreting the substance our Colonial Space Marines have reported as covering the areas inhabited by the Aliens, a reproduction of which is included in the figure's base?

Note also the sleek, elliptical structure of the beast's translucent cranial cap, the recessed ranks of razor-sharp teeth and lashing secondary jaw, capable of smashing through a faceplate or tearing through Marine body armor. The researcher will note with joy that a cleverly concealed trigger at the back of the cranial cap allows one to manipulate this secondary jaw, thereby causing it to lash out and retract; I myself spent hours doing this very thing.

As such, this model is a powerfully persuasive tool that reinforces the wisdom of our Chief Administrators in the Company in recommending that all Alien Xenomorphs and "Face-Hugger" specimens be contained for further study and analysis. The creature is obviously the perfect biological weaspon, and its perfection renders even more pathetic the pitiful pleas of Colonists and Merchants for the Company to provide support in destroying these fascinating creatures. As usual, this transmission is classified, and all support and military personnel involved in capturing and transporting the Alien Xenomorph should be considered expendable.

END TRANSMISSION X4312.a.2.
