McFarlane seems to have learned some useful things from their Walking Dead TV and comic series action figure lines. Here we have the swashbuckling Edward Kenway from Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. No one really knows much yet about this character other than that he is Connor's Grandfather. The game doesn't street until October the 29th, so as of now all we know about this character is that he can swim, platform, drive a boat, shoot and stab people like nobody's business.

McFarlane had their work cut out for them, NECA did a pretty great job with their Player Select line for Assassin's Creed and Assassin's Creed II figures, as well as their figures for Brotherhood. The largest complaint about those lines were the lack of accessories, something McFarlane clearly listened to. This figure comes with two swords, his hidden assassins blades which are removeable (a big gripe for all the previous Assassin's Creed figures was the lack of their hidden blades). Edward's hood can also be removed (but Edward doesn't have his pony tail like he does in the game, understandable since it would be near impossibly to sculpt a pony tail that would fit under the removable hood) which is a great feature. The packing for this figure is on par with the Walking Dead series 3 figures, the card is taller vertically as opposed to horizontally wide, the blister runs a good length of the whole card, the blister window has a DLC code for on the bottom inside for the Kenway Family Sword.

Overall this is a great figure. Mine will stay blistered to the card, but as far as articulation goes, it looks to be on par with the previous wave of the Walking Dead figures McFarlane released in March.

I recently purchased this item and it shipped to my house quickly without an issue. When it had arrived i immediately opened the box and set it up. I had heard issues that the swords and hidden blade attachments easily broke but for my figure they had not broke, possibly because I know I was careful in removing and applying the weapons to the action figure. Also its worth pointing out that even though it is an action figure that articulated the balls and creases that help the figure move are not noticeable at all so it looks more like a statue rather than an action figure.

This is my first action figure. For the price and size this is an excellent action figure. While I noticed some people had issues with the hidden blades breaking I've not had this issue. I've bought this just as a display, but when I attached the hidden blades they were still in tact. There was a mix up with the package being delivered to the wrong town but even with that my figure showed up in a safe and timely manner. Thank you!

With the tons of new licenses for figures that NECA has gotten, they had to let go of their Assassin's Creed license (at least, that's what I think happened). With the license free, McFarlane took the torch.

One thing to note about these figures is that they're an inch shorter than the Assassin's Creed figures NECA released. This does not make them bad figures, however.

Unlike the NECA figures, the Edward figure does not come with retractable hidden blades. It comes with two sets of pop-off hidden blades: one retracted, and one extended. In total, there are 4. One of each type for each arm. Something to note is that the peg holes in the arms may be too big or the pegs on the blades too small and may not fit properly. I found that some dried super glue helped with this.

The figure also comes with two swords which fit perfectly in Edward's hands. The hood on the figure is removable but can be somewhat difficult to put back on because of the chest straps. The paint job and detail of this figure is outstanding, especially for its scale.

The figure is durable and sturdy as it stands well on its own. Articulation seems to be lacking in the hands and thighs, but overall it's a great figure and I'd recommend it to any Assassin's Creed fan.

If you're looking for a very poseable action figure for Assassin's Creed, then this isn't for you. (But then again, you don't have much of a choice since NECA stopped making figures for AC) But for a McFarlene action figure, it's one of the best. His hood comes off, (this variant at least) he comes with plenty of accessories and looks pretty decent involving the paint area. Overall, if you are thinking of buying a McFarlene and you're a fan of Edward Kenway, then this is a figure for you. (But if you're looking for quality action figures, then NECA made some for Altiar Ibn'La Ahad and Ezio de Firenze. They are very nice figures and much taller and poseable.)
